The other day while working on the F-112 in decent sunlight, I noticed the binding is very thin and made of pickguard material, it's not black, it has vaiation and light spots.

Is this the normal biding on these guitars?

Also, the fanciest headstock for the bottom of the barrel 12 string, with a Chesterfield, but I'm not seeing it on other early F-112's like this one.

Tortoiseshell binding isn't unheard of. I don't recall off the top of my head which of my Guilds is bound with it, but I know at least a couple are.

I like the look myself.

My Osthoff 12-fret dread has tortoise binding as does my Gagliano Model 900 (made by Kay). I'm sure I had another mahogany body guitar that had tortoise binding, but I can't remember at the moment.

I like the look of tortoiseshell binding. I know some F-30 Aragon and F-40 Valencia had tortoiseshell binding.
My Ibanez Lonestar 550 WN has tortoiseshell binding,

Both my D40 and D50 have tortoise binding. So does my Tacoma DM9. I think it’s a classy look.
