Can anyone tell me what size bridge pins the DV-52 takes? Mine are pretty chewed up, they still work ok, but it bothers me

Hi frankieb,

Long story short, Guild is notorious for using what ever bridge pins they had available at the time and reaming the pin holes to match. There is no set standard, unless that’s changed in the new factory. You pretty much have two options. Measure your existing pins and order accordingly, or if you’re having them custom made (as many here have done), send one in to who ever is making it to copy the size and taper. There is a third option. Ream the holes to fit a larger pin, but I don’t recommend it unless you’re patient and extremely careful.

Pull one of the pins, and send to Bob Colosi at www.guitarsaddles.com. He'll make a custom set and have them back in a snap.

Might as well get a bone saddle while you're there!

Thanks for the info, I will check into getting a set made it sounds like. Have heard lots of good about Bob Colosi's work.

I put Tusq Presentation style pins in my DV-52, they fit perfectly and look great!

Thanks for the info Dreadnut, I might try a set of those before having a set made. If they don't work out I can always find a use for em. I gotta say that pic of your guitar gives me a serious case of burst envy, that top sure is pretty!

Yeah, I put 'em in my D-25M too. I like the way they fit and the "presentation style" pin heads sit up a bit higher than the standard ones. I got the ones with abalone inlay, white pins for the D-25 and black for the DV-52.

They're some kind of ceramic, very hard, can't say for sure they help the tone but I like to think so.

Regarding bridge pins, I was watching someone tune a fiddle the other day, and noticed the little fine tuners on the tailpiece which are necessary because the tapered headstock pins are so difficult to adjust minutely. How about a set of guitar bridge pins with the same mechanism to give you a quick fine-ratio tune or an automatic drop-down? Sometimes guitar tuners don't seem to have an easy fine tune...you have to go up, then down. The old Waverlys on my '70 D 40 have a bit of worn gear slop to them—I like the idea of getting near the note; then making it perfect with a finer mechanism. It would probably make the guitar more prone to going out of tune, though.

I've seen dulcimers with the violin type tuners, and a bead on the string below the saddle, you could fine tune by sliding the bead...actually a neat idea...Steffan

The Setzer Bluesbird came with a locknut, a Kahler, and the fine tuners...you'll just have to go electric.

Scored some ebony pins off the Bay that are supposedly Guild pins. Took just very minor sanding and they fit like a glove 8) The old pins were so loose, worn, and chewed up that the new pins really made a big difference in the guitar, quite a bit more volume and much better tone  I can't put the ol girl down now, been playing for the last 6 hours :D
