Did Guild make many "custom" guitars? This 1975 (that someone is selling on eBay) is pretty interesting but I'm not sure of the reason for just one pickup on this type of guitar. Why not just order an Artist Award?
Well, I think the X-500 has a laminated top, not solid, and the pickup is set in. Maybe because the laminated top would be less susceptible to feedback. Probably other differences, like less binding around the head, would make it less expensive than an AA, even as a one off.

I saw that too and was wishing I had a bigger guitar budget. I've seen it before when it was offered for sale a year or so ago in Seattle and I believe it is what it's claimed to be. Single pups are often preferred by Jazz players and with the appointments of an X500 this seems like an especially nice guitar... soooo tempting! 8)

I too lusted heavily over this guitar, must be those bound F-holes. I could have been tempted to go into even more debt for it..........until I saw the upside down TRC  !

"Many" depends on how you define it, but yes, they did custom guitars, as you can read in Hans book, Hans also showed examples in his book.

Unfortunatelly another case for the TRC Police!
