This is from the promo for the Martin 00018 Special that is MFs SDOTD (I added the bold text):
>This glued, neck-to-body joint allows the neck and body of the guitar to resonate as one instrument. Like many of the world’s finest string instruments, the mortise and tenon does not have any bolts that limit sustain or change the color of the acoustic sound. The tight fit increases the transference of tone and sustain across the entire instrument. <

A spitball fer sher.

We should complain to Martin. Isn't Guild enough of a threat to throw spitballs at? I'm insulted.

I love a good dovetail joint as well as the next guy, but a lot of well-respected small shop guitars these days have bolt-on necks, including my Huss & Dalton. I detect neither "limited sustain" nor "change of color" in its tone, compared to other premium rosewood dreadnoughts I have owned with a dovetail neck joint.

In fact, I am one of the most fickle guitar churners out there, but the H&D continues to rest comfortably in its cradle right next to me.

Yes, local maker Phil Brunwin (Bethany Guitars) uses a bolt on neck and his guitars have superb sound.

I don’t think I ran into a Taylor with crappy sound and sustain. I don’t believe that glue would make for more sound transfer, I’d ponder that if it would actually inhibit it. Provided the bolts are nice and tight as intended I’d be very hard pressed to believe it would ruin sustain

I thought Martin had a unique sound until early this week. While watching Tyler Childers on the NPR Tiny Desk youtube series, I heard the clear and signature sound of his Martin D-18. The camera moves out and he was playing his new Collings. Another lesson learned.

Bourgeois, Breedlove, Collings, Goodall, Huss & Dalton, Lakewood, Mossman, Tacoma, Taylor all Use bolt on necks per acousticguitarforum.com
Note the Martin description is in the "Stupid Deal of the day". Just hype from Musicians Friend and GC. At $699.99 it is likely not a US made Martin.

The Martin M&T joint isn't all that great. It was mainly done to save money during manufacturing. My D-15SM has it and I dread (no pun intended) whenever it comes time for a re-set.

My 1976 Mossman has the bolted/glued mortise/tenon setup. No lacking volume or presence. Sometimes I think most of the hype surrounding acoustic guitar construction is just that.
