Hi everyone. This is my first post, I'm new to the board. I've only been playing guitar for a couple of years now, and went a bit overboard on acquiring guitars. Spent too much, gotta let go of my Guild D55.
Being a novice, I don't really know enough about this Guild to give it a good description on E-bay or my Craigslist listings.

It's a Guild D55 in excellent condition. Serial number 118939, which I believe puts its date of manufacture at 1975 at the Westerly RI plant.

Spruce top? Rosewood or mahogany sides? I've searched Google trying to get a good description, plenty of new D55 description, but none on a guitar of this vintage.

Thanks in advance for any help, sorry about the newbieness.

 Very pretty!

The rosewood and spruce both look great. Good luck with the sale!

Yeah, it's a sweet one. Lots of distinct feathering in the top, and for being 35 years old, in darn good condition. And a real sweet sound with great action. And not even a hint of buckle rash on the back. This one was not gigged or dragged around much from the look of it.

I HATE to sell it, but I got the GAS real bad since I started playing and it got out of hand. I just got an unbelievable deal on a 1974 Martin D35 that is in almost pristine condition and sounds like a chorus of angels. A Craigslist find that I just happened to be first in line with the cash.

This Guild sounds equally as good but in a different way. Hard choice, but the Martin looks like the keeper at this point.

In any case, I gotta stop buying guitars unless I get rich.

Be sure to list it for sale on this site, too . . . some of the members here have been known to purchase used guitars, now & again . . . and again . . . and . . .

Thanks! I'll do that.

Can anyone refer me to a site where I can find the market value of this guitar?

(and yes, I know, it's $200 bucks and you'll buy it right now)

Nah $200.00 sounds a bit cheap to me, call it $500.00 throw in shipping to NZ and I'll take it.

Cheers, Ian

Yeah, I knew when I posted this thread that it would probably go over like a fart in church. How do I sell my Guild D55 because I'm going hang onto my Martin D35. Not exactly hard core Guild ownership.

But, I gotta stop spending on guitars, this is outta control. I was a drummer for years, and never had a desire to buy tons of drum kits. I'd buy good quality and what I liked, and let it go at that until something wore out.

I fall in love with every good guitar I play it seems.

Very sweet D-55.

FWIW the Vintage Guitar Price Guide places a value of $1,500-$1,700. All the usual provisos of course, condition, case, etc., etc..

Maybe, the Martin was on Los Angeles Craigslist for $1500, the guy was in Huntington Beach. "One day price" he said, I went down and bought it immediately. I'm fairly new to the guitar world, but that Martin is in near pristine condition. Seemed like a good deal compared to other prices I was seeing.

The D35 sounds friggin' sweet.

Hey you prob'ly know I was yankin yer chain! This is probably the best prospect pool you could find. Hopefully some worthy member will be able to add a new member to their family!
