Hi everyone...I know it's been awhile...but I know this is the place to ask these questions...

I ran across a 1997 D4 NT HR...

Is this just a dreadnought acoustic?

Been trying to find comparable prices....

Not sure if $449 is in the ballpark...I'm guessing so...

If anyone can give me any help/input...that would be great...

It's quite a drive from me so I'm gonna have to set up a time to go see it...

Welcome. The D4 is a dread acoustic with an arched back. That price is in the ballpark; especially if it is in good shape.

The D4 is basically the "Shaker" version of a D25. Solid mahogany sides, arched mahogany back, A grade spruce top. Rosewood fretboard.

They are great values. I own a DV4 (with a solid back) and I wouldn't trade it in, even if I stumbled on that Westerly DV6 I dearly want. It's a solid, great sounding guitar. And I don't have to worry about it quite as much as my F44.

D4 - It's YOUR fault!!

First...Thanks for the help with my questions!

I'm going to look at the D4 this weekend! I put a deposit on it...the guy @ the store says it's super nice...someone sold it to buy Christmas presents...

Hopefully, it'll be riding home with me!! I'm kinda stoked!

You Guild people with your "just do it" philosophy...you all have rubbed off on me...

THANKS for that!

PS...If my wife yells at me for buying it...I'll just tell her that you all have some kind of crazy "mind control mojo" working! I know you won't mind being scapegoated...and I WILL post pics if it follows me home!

It's possibly the Svenguildi syndrome?

*Don't everybody groan at once!

If it's not the original Guild case, then I would offer something less than $449.00. If the D4 is excellent shape, then I would go for it, anyways!

I'm not sure the D4s even came with a case. My DV4 has a flat top TKL, which I assume the original owner paid extra for.
In that era prices were listed for guitars with and without cases. You could opt to buy it without a case but got a discount if you bought the case with it. There was also a price for standalone case.

When I bought my DCE1 in '97 it didn't come with a case, in fact it wasn't even mentioned that I could buy a case. Instead I bought an SKB for like 60 bucks or something. Of course, this was at Sam Ash, so who knows how that went down.

I got a suspicion it was in the back somewhere and the "salesman" didn't even know it. Especially for a DCE1. I could see 'em not bothering to order cases for D4's, but I'd think there'd be more money in the Guild cases for them. Then again, I'm remembering '97 was pretty tough times, maybe they did order "bare" guitars knowing they'd probably have to offer cheaper cases just to stay competitive.
When I got my D25 in '97, it was offered "with case", and I liked the price so I didn't try to see if I could save a few bucks by buying without a case.
