Hey, I found a nice price ($375) on a good condition 1976 D25M in Seattle and picked it up over the weekend when I went down for a show. I know there are a lot of fans of these guitars on this forum (and now I am too), and I was curious how the dimensions of the D25 measure up to other dreads? I don't have any standard size acoustics to compare it to (which is why I bought it), but is the D25 slightly smaller than most dreads? It's very comfortable to play, which hasn't been my experience with other dreads.

Thanks

Physically, I'm not sure, as my former Martin D18 was gone several years before I got my D25. Aurally, the D25 is the biggest dread I've played. :D

D25's are standard sized dreads. My old '94 (which is now with a friend) is in the center of this photo. To the left is a Martin D-16GT and to the right is a DV52... so you can see the D25 is right around the same size as both of those.

Welcome GB, nice score on the Bicentennial year D-25M. I have one of those too, it was my first and only Guild for about 20 years. (Mine is s.n. 146147)

It is a standard size dreadnaught, but because of the arched back it is slightly thicker than most. I know it won't fit in most aftermarket dread cases

Enjoy your new old Guild :D

I have a Tric molded case for my Larrivee, its for the dread size, the Corona D25 I have, with the big headstock, just barely fits in. the Length is a little longer, maybe because of the 'bubble' design of the top. it actually touches the end of the case, but the body fits perfectly....I sure didn't want to have to flatten the top to make it fit...  Steffan

I have the same issue with my G37, the big Guild headstock just barely clears the end of a generic dreadnaught case, not suitable for shipping or serious travel.

Sokay tho, Gilded sold me a Genuine Vintage Guild case & it's a perfect fit.

Nice score on the D25 8) 8)

Looks like mine is a few months younger than yours at 148686. Yeah, it's a real sweet guitar. I haven't played much acoustic lately, so it's nice and I guess you all know better than me what a value these things are. Makes me wonder why people buy new mid-range guitars at all, seeing as you can find vintage awesome ones for the same price. It came with the OHSC, so I don't have to worry about that arched back issue. I'm considering having the saddle and pins swapped out for bone, and what's going on with the nut? It almost feels like it's stone or something. Anyway, it was a no-brainer score to fill a gap in my guitar collection. I'm gonna clean it, restring it and give it a workout tonight.

Thanks Everyone.

Lovely guitar, it deserves an upgrade with bone saddle, nut and pins IMO.

I agree. I just called my luthier friend who always gives me a great deal (the nut and saddle probably would have only run me about $50 from him), but he's moving to Nashville real soon and isn't taking any more work. I'll have it done sooner or later though, and then I'll be able to compare the tone better.

Chicago of course
I can heartily endorse the upgrade to bone all around. The sustain and precision is definitely enhanced. I think the work cost me around $100. Next for my '76 is a PUP (still soliciting suggestions) and some new tuners--I don't think the originals are bad, they're just old and they slip a bit, particularly the G for some reason.

+1 on the bone nut and saddle. Then you might want to dress it up with some Tusq string pins, I prefer the presentation style. My D-25 has white Tusq pins with abalone dot inlay :D
