I am looking at maybe purchasing a D-55 serial # AD551642 which makes it older than 1997 (AD550691 was the last one made in 1997).
I know Fender aquired Guild Guitars in 1995, can anyone tell by the serial number if this guitar was made in Westerly RI or Corona ,CA ?

Thank you in advance.

PS I sold my 1990 D-50 a few months ago and miss it a lot, I need another Guild badly.

Cheers
Colin :D

Thanks for the welcome and reply....... :D
I edited my post to relect the fact the guitar is slightly newer than I thought, although it may still have been made in Westerly??

Still a buy....
The move from Westerly didn't happen until 2004 (If my memory serves me right, if not, it won't take long until we get the correction).....
And in all seriousness, some great guitars have come out of every factory Guild had it's name on. Some of us here just have a "je-ne sais-quoi" in favor of Westerly, as long debated at many occasions before....

Westerly was operational until the end of August '01 .
Was I off by 3 years?!
Pay attention BP, pay attention.....
With 55 starin' me in the face next March I was startin' to get a little nervous about driving 'til I realized all those signs on the highway are speed limits...

When I work on a project requiring tools, I am considering going the "surgeon way" now.
With a mini cassette recorder, disclosing every location where I drop a tool, so I don't spend the next half hour looking for it.....

Hi Colin,

Check this thread.viewtopic.php?f=5&t=21721

Good luck with your D55 !!

Cheers, Ian

Thanks Ian,
the one I'm looking at must be a 2000 or 1999.
I got rid of my 1990 sunburst D-50 a few months ago, I've played a few Martin dreads but NOTHING comes close to my old D-50. The newer ones' are called Bluegrass specials and have the Adi tops, I like the look and sound of sitka so I'm going for the D-55 (wish it was a sunburst too)
Cheers

I know a couple of NH burst 55 for sale, about 2 miles from my maison, at a place called "Wolfe's guitars". That is in Fl. tho......
They even had a demo one at reduced price, a couple weeks back.
Yep. Believe it or not, 3 D55 burst in the same store!!!

The last Westerly D55's were the AD5526xx's. Those would be '01's.

I've never met a D55 I didn't love. Of course once mine quit getting stolen I've stayed with my '83! Just had it restrung yesterday and am heading to the studio next week. It will shine on at least one and probably two of the four songs I'm recording. joan

Love my '06 D-55 to death. It's my main gigging instrument and it just ROCKS.
