It seems the cherry d-25s are very popular on the forum. Does anyone know the origin of the decision to make a red guitar. The reason I ask is that quite a few years ago someone I knew claimed he had the first one made for him as a custom order. Did any of the F models get the same finish?

Note sure I have seen any Fs in wacky colors, but pretty sure I have seen (on-line) "wood-grain red (AKA WGR)" and "wood grain blue (AKA WGB)" G-37s... and even weirder (seafoam green?) D-25s...

In the 1993 catalogue, the JF30-12, F50, JF30, D40 and D40CE were offered in "New Colour" Red.

The "NEW" D25 was available in " a swatch of non-traditional colours ". Honey-Blonde, Seafoam Green, Amber, Crimson Transparent, Sapphire Blue Transparent and Brown Sunburst.

Hello Lee,

The D-25 was introduced in 1968 and in 1969 the 'Cherry Red' finish was added to the regular 'Mahogany' finish. The 'Cherry Red' finish is a much darker finish than the 'Wood Grain Red' that became available during the mid-'80s.

Did any of the F models get the same finish?

I'm not sure which F-models you are referring to, so I cannot answer that part.

Hey Coastie, you probably meant to say the 2003 catalog!
