I've posted several times on Craigslist in the Musicians Community pages in several different towns (within an hours drive from me) for the past few months, looking for someone to play music together. I've worded my posts differently each time but I haven't had even one response! My goodness, if you look at the larger cities it looks like C/L is the place to hook up, guess I'm wrong. My town used to have a thriving musician community, but I've been out of the loop for a while and thought this would be the way to go. I've jammed with some guys lately but its not really what I'm looking for and am trying to be a little more specific in what I want. I know theres a bunch of musicians near me... gotta be. Thought I'd put in 'slightly graying' this time  . Heres the last of several ads I've posted http://owensboro.craigslist.org/muc/2692569877.html Any thoughts?

I play both acoustic and electric Ian. Would love to jam with you sometime but I was looking for someone just a little closer to home

Try to find a place where a jam can take place.
A Mobile Home Rec Center, Public Library, City Park[summer only].
Now when yet get a place to play, place an add back on CL, and also in local music stores.
When folks start to show up, encourage them to get others to attend.
This may take some time but after you have a group of people coming to the jam, you can pick out a few for a private jam.

TMG's suggestion is great! I did something similar when I moved here and got good results. As far as your CL ad is concerned, it's good but it might work better if it was more specific. Like... 42 year old intermediate (or advanced , beginner etc) acoustic fingerstyle picker looking for someone to informally jam with on Country classics etc...

CL is free so if at first you don't succeed....

Great ideas :) Things happen when one least expects it to so I'll probably just keep my ads up for awhile. Have'em up in three towns. Theres a couple music stores nearby and probably need to just start rubbing some elbows there too. Just finding it odd that smaller communities don't use this free resource whereas the larger cities are so active. In the mean time I'll just keep playing with, er, by myself
