Corona D-25 question

Hi all,

Can someone describe the typical tone of the Corona D-25 model (the one with the matte-ish headstock) as compared to Westerly-era D-25s? Is the bracing on the Coronas different (scalloped, maybe)? I know the back is 2-piece instead of arched.

I rember playing one of the early Corona D-25s around 2000, I believe, and thinking it sounded very good...maybe a bit more open toned than the '74 D-25 I had at the time.

Thanks a lot,
Mike

They're very different instruments. The Corona D25s were reproductions of the early all mahogany D25s. I've only ever played one Corona D25, but it was real gem. It was balanced, with lots of midrange, but not super boomy.

Currently the Gulf Coast!
I have to say, my experience has been the opposite. I recently played a 2003 Corona D25 and did not care at all for it. The guitar sounded like a cardboard box, something my all mahogany D15 with an arched back manages to avoid. This may not be representative of all the Corona D25s, but this one did not sound like a Guild, at least not any Guild I've ever played (though that is a limited number!)

cheers
