There is a 96 X170 that I'm considering. It seems to be in decent shape. No notable damage beyond the typical swirls and I'm sure some play wear just not too visible in be pictures.

The asking price is 1620 USD before shipping. It's been a few years but the last time I saw these he market was 1400 or so. What's it like these days?

Seems a bit high to me. I bought a pristine X-170 T for 1300 a few years back. I don't think the pricing has changed since then, but I could be totally wrong.

Barry, I have an 1986 X-170 in near mint condition. It has some bonus features, like an ebony bridge, locking Grovers and original HB1 pickups. I was just getting ready to list it for sale for $1500 shipped (LTG price)

It seems a bit high to me too. Once they get below $1400, they move. Over that, they tend to sit.

$1200 is the magic number for me on most '90s Guild electrics unless it's got something special like HB1s, an ebony board, nicer inlays, etc. The late 80's to early '90s, though, had some really beautiful instruments that I don't see often and would pay a premium for.

Thanks, GAD. I was hoping you'd chime in. Indeed $1200 seems to be the price where a 170 moves from the mid 90's. This one seems to be common and with what I assume are the SD1 pickups. I offered him $1200. That's quite a bit off what he has it listed at so he may not bite.

the only reason I'm interested in this specific one is that it was built in 1996. It's the same year as my second child was born. Sounds like a cool guitar though! Made I believe in the first few years that the X170 was offered as a model. :D
