Hi all,it has been some time since I was on the site.I see lots of familiar names, very thankfully.......I was on a while back, about a used DV 62 I picked up while in Canada, and you all helped me a great deal with info on the baby....Well, seems I ran into another guild I just bought for about 450 bucks, but can't find anything about the year it was put together at Westerly R.I. the number enbossed in the rear of headstock is 197749..It is tagged as a G37 BL.....nice sonding machine for sure, has all the clarity and ring of a maple guitar and someone installed a pickup in this one too....If anyone in LTG, could assist me in identifing the year of this Guild, I would certainly appreciate it...As soon as i can clean it p a bit, I plan to post photos of it....Has normal checking of finish, and little wear on the neck, fretts, and fingerboard.......It does sond just like any guild does...absolutely wonderful, and full-bodied....thanks so much people...Steve

Matter of fact, that is the guitar...although, the serial number on the headstock does not have any letters preceeding the digits 197749, as I found on a different website for dating..So, how would I know the year of manufacturing?..Some one had recently informed me(???) that this used to be the designation, and was changed to "D" after the years it was produced, but as you stated, this is any ones guess..certainly,I do not know myself

Going by "the book" if it has a Chesterfield logo on the headstcok, it is 1976 and newer. The first Guild serial number PDF I found shows 1979 as the year for that serial number.

I could be wrong, as I am new here.

from 1970-1979 they did not have those letters preceding. then starting in 1979 they did. there are 2 charts on this website that 1979 falls into- http://support.guildguitars.com/downloads/datingyourguild.pdf

your guitar appears to be from 1979

The G37 eventually became the D30. It's a great dread, versatile, great for finger style too. $450 is a great price by the way. Even sounds low, but congrats! You made out well.

Actually, it will require some wood repair, a couple of case closures on it over the years before I got it, put some cracks in the bottom side but not the arch side, and the surface of the soundboard, below the bridge area, has some wood repair that is needed also. But I felt even if I spend a few hundreds on the repairs, this sure sounds good for vocals and recording, and really projects tones and volume better then my dv62....I thank you for the info on the year.i myself was just guessing about 1977 for the year, but i also fond the website that shows no prefix letters for 1979 thru september of that year....Hans may contact me from Guitarsgalore with more info on this....Many thank yous for all of LTG folks that filled me in.When I get the baby repaired I hope to post some nice photos of it.May need a tiny bit of fingerboard work done at the ampfire position on the b string,as it appears to be scalloped a bit, not alot though,so I may just leave well enough alone...thanks everyone...Steve Dedeian
