I spent part of the morning gluing up a cracked 78 RPM record from 1925 so that I could play it. I was quite successful.

Here are the two sides at archive.org - not my record, though.

I'll Buy The Ring

Cheating

Here below the first side is played on an HMV Gramophone (a higher-end gramophone than mine but unfortunately it is a worse copy of the record than mine depspite the repaired crack in mine.

I have some Ukulele Ike 33 LPs. He became most famous, of course, as the voice of Jiminy Cricket from the Walt Disney film Pinnochio.

Thanks for posting the 78 recordings. Great stuff!

You never what's going to pop up on LTG! I have a half dozen or so Ukulele Ike LPs; all compilations of his many 78s.

Louis Armstrong is often credited with having invented scat singing, which came about when the lyric sheet to a song Louis was recording in the studio fell off the music stand and he was forced to improvise. But Cliff Edwards beat him to the punch, having scatted on record even earlier.

Cliff Edwards owns "When You Wish Upon a Star" -- no one has ever recorded a lovelier version.
