I'm talking country/rock/rockabilly chicken pickin. Like this...





(I can even feel some of the same ruckus jamming flavors as you'd get in a live 69 Zep in this stuff! )

There's times when I find myself in the mood to go down the YouTube rabbit hole and tonight is one of those nights, HEAVY on chicken pickin tonight. I have many guitarists in mind that are proficient chicken pickers, but of late, I've really really loved the early stuff from Sturgill Simpson from back when he fronted a band called Sunday Valley. Just as ruckus as can be for a little 3 piece. (Biscuit not included! ) LOVE LOVE LOVE this stuff. Sadly, by the time I was turned onto it, he'd already unplugged and gone the way of a trad country/bluegrass singer/songwriter...which he is also amazing at!

Never take any Plant's stage banter with more than a grain of salt. He throws out inside jokes and whatever else can waste a minute of dead air while instruments are tuned. I honestly wouldn't put it past him to name drop a guy who works in the mailroom at the Swan Song office in NYC. (Not kidding!) And I've listened to every "Plantation" there is in recorded public circulation. (250+ full concerts!) I gave up on putting any real meaning to them over 25 yrs ago.

I’m a fan of Vince Gill. That guy can scorch a Telecaster. Also, a big fan of Danny Gatton’s guitar playing. His music is very much under-appreciated!
