While visiting family this weekend, I was checking out my cousin's recent Guild acquisition. It is a Les Paul style with a pick guard an P90 style pups and my first thought was bluesbird. He's thinking blues90 based on pics in a guitar book that he has. We can't figure out exactly what it is or when it was made. The s/n is CL002626, which isn't in the range listed in guilds s/n pdf. Anyone got a clue? TIA

Sounds like a very late Westerly Blues 90. Block or dot inlays? My Blues 90 is SN CL 002229.

CL002626 is in between my 2000 Bluesbird and 2001 Blues 90.

Blues 90 did come with P90 pickups, but so did some Bluesbirds (though most had humbuckers).

The most obvious difference between Bluesbird and Blues 90 is the fingerboard:
Block inlays and binding = Bluesbird
Dot inlays and no binding = Blues 90

Interesting it has a pickguard. I believe the very early 1990's Bluesbirds had pickguards as stock items. Then Guild began to include them with the Bluesbirds but they were not installed. Eventually the pickguards were eliminated. Blues 90's came along pretty late so I am suprised a pickguard was added. It may have been an option for the Blues 90. I had never seen one.
