Buying a 60s starfire

I'm saving up for a new guitar and the vintage Starfire IVs have really caught my eye. Problem is I stay in Singapore and there's barely a market over here for vintage guitars, let alone Guilds.

Am wondering if anyone over here could advise me on the general quality of the 60s starfires, how safe would it be to ship one over from the US without having tried it out in person, and maybe where to start looking for one? Many thanks!

Well, you'll see them come up for sale right on this forum from time to time and I believe most members here are stand-up folks who wouldn't sell you something with issues unless they were disclosed.

Of course, Ebay and Reverb are always decent spots to find gear. Some have a real hangup buying gear unseen. Although I'm nowhere near Singapore I live way the hell in the middle of nowhere and buy virtually all my gear unseen. I've had a couple that didn't work out but for the most part, I think if you do your research, figure out what you really want and set yourself a reasonable budget you'll usually come out fine. Would I like to see in person and play a guitar before I buy it? Absolutely, but given where I live that's usually not possible.
