Many of you have likely heard of the Brian Gallop School of Lutherie here in Mid Michigan. He's a well known and respected builder of his own line of guitars and also has an on site school where aspiring Luthiers go to learn their trade.

I bought this guitar from fellow LTGer, D 30 man a few years back. A friend of mine at the time fell in love with it and had to have it so I sold it to him. We had a falling out and hadn't spoken for a few years but reconnected recently. Unfortunately, another of his guitars fell against this one and put a crack in the side of the guitar. It hasn't been messed with and it's not at all horrible so I repurchased the guitar and it will be on its way to Tom Jacobs soon for repair and set up.

It's a really pretty 000 model with a beautiful Spruce (Sitka I believe) soundboard and highly flamed Maple back and sides. Except for the crack, it's pretty minty.

Unfortunately the seller was also a heavy smoker and it has "that smell" I'll be working hard to eliminate or at least reduce. It's bearable but I just don't care for that smell anymore. Brings back too many bad memories. Nice Gotoh tuning machines and an Ebony fingerboard and bridge.

Here's a few pics. I sure do like a beautiful Maple guitar.

Beautiful guitar and the maple is amazing. Tom will enjoy reworking the flaws.
Glad you and your friend mending things.

Just to be clear. The smoke smell Charlie mentions on the D 100 NT CRV was not from me. I am a non smoker. It belonged to a friend of mine from whom I bought the guitar.

So, if any of you are ever worried that gear you buy from me will smell of smoke rest assured it likely won't. This was an isolated case beyond my control. I'm working on this guitar and two other Martins I got from the same seller that also have a smoke smell. These latest aren't horribly bad. I just want to get them better. They are ones I will likely keep.

One is a Custom Shop 000 Martin with Morado back and sides. The other is a Martin HD 28 LSV I'll likely be picking up soon.

There goes my "it's time to reduce inventory" strategy I guess although to be honest, I knew I would fail miserably at that anyway.

If you are gonna fail at something, failing at limiting your number of guitars is the way to go. I have "backsled" several times and choosing the one/ones to depart with is most difficult.

Their school looks awesome. What an absolute blast that would be. If I was only younger or retired…

Galloup is only about 35 miles from my house. But I have no interest in building guitars, only in playing them.

If I’m ever able to retire before I die (unlikely) I’d consider going just to do repair work on the side, and maybe have some fun building. Hell you could just take the pup winding course and go live in a cabin in the woods like Jim Wagner…
