Two of the members of all-girl noise-rock band Sleater-Kinney formed a new band called Wild Flag, and wouldn't you know it? They have taste in guitars. Not a big surprise. If you know Sleater Kinney, you know they like a mean guitar.

I'm just stuck in a hotel room, but managed at the last second to grab a couple of cell-phone pics. Maybe one of you can find the clip and get better screen grabs?

Anyway, enjoy!

Carrie Brownstein and her black S-100 Deluxe have been mentioned often on this site (usually by me :D). Here's a shot of her playing with Wild Flag at the Varsity in Minneapolis

And a screen grab from Wild Flag's "Romance" video, with former S-K drummer Janet Weiss in the background.

And from her Sleater-Kinney days on tour in Australia,

and from a 2006 performance at the Coachella Festival. She played the black Deluxe on nine of the 11 songs they did at Coachella, all of which are on Youtube (as everything seems to be these days).

There may be something in the Portland water.

Rebecca Gates used to play a Guild* in the another 90s/00s indie fave, the Spinanes (and she and Carrie know each other).

on Conan years ago

* I'm not quite deep in enough to know the model # on sight. Yet.

Sleater Kinney aye. I must admit I've never heard of the band, but since Sleater Kinney road is about 3 miles from my house I looked the girls up. Turns out they're a local band from my town; Olympia, Wa & the band name derives from their practice space off Sleater Kinney road.

I'm unsure how this info enriches your lives but nevertheless I've shared it with you.

Looks like a black S100 deluxe in this youtube vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xfbVrwH ... re=related

Carrie plays pretty decent music, uses SGs and S-100s, is bi and a pretty funny chick (I am currently really digging Portlandia)?

I think it is a fine example of making the mundane (random road in Olympia/Lacey) into the profound (band name).

It is also a fine highlight of the rapidly depleting band name natural resources. We must do something about it before the only band names left are just numbers and/or foreign! (Hope this isn't against the "no politics" policy).

The Guilds of Grot: thanks! I knew it was a Bluesbird, but not sure which. That one was the inspiration (or validation?) for me choosing my first "real" guitar in 1995 (a 60s starfire III).

+1

:!: +1 about Portlandia, (I'm not a pretty funny bi chick who plays decent music on SGs and S-100s.)

Hey LA, that was a repeat of a few months back. You can browse the original thread here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=27492

EDIT: Whoops. I just realized this thread was months old as well.

Cestlamort, I ran into Rebecca Gates recently and she's still a Guild fan. We talked about the m75 (1973, I think) she was playing.

Ha! I just noticed that and meant to correct my post. It showed up under "new posts" so I didn't realize at first that it was just one new post on an old thread. Hadn't had my coffee yet.
