Not too long ago there was a thread about balancing the LB-1 pickups. I can not find that thread now. Maybe it was just a post within the thread.

Relying on my fading memory, it was something like first getting a good sound from the bridge by putting it x distance from the strings. Then he balanced the bridge by ear, I believe lowering it somewhat.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I would like to find this post.

Has anyone tried swapping the neck and bridge? I know that's not necessarily ideal, but it might give the bridge more bite. Maybe 2 LB-1 bridge pickups would be the ticket.

I would balance the pole pieces of the bridge pickup as krysh mentioned by dropping all pole pieces, then balancing each to the strongest pole. I would then set the bridge pickup as close to the strings as possible with a good, clear tone. After the bridge pickup is set you can adjust the neck pickup to the desired height.

I plan on playing around with this once the Thunderbird comes out and I get my hands on one. Think I'll start by raising the bridge pickup fairly high and backing down the neck p'up for a nice volume balance. Then do some playing through different amps & effects gizmos, listening to how the guitar sounds. It might be possible to get a good tonal balance too by lowering the bridge p'up polepieces while raising those in the neck p'up. If so I'll just leave it at that. Otherwise I may try swapping the pickups around.
