Anyone has experience editing mp3 files in "Audacity" software?
I'm trying to find programs that can open Audacity files, but no luck so far, and the PC is just about ready to be flying out the window... So I thought I'd ask first, before starting shopping for a new computer.

Never mind I got the answer to my own question....

By some miracle, dumbness lifted off of my brain for a second and common sense directed me to "Google" (ever heard of it? ), and that's how I came to understand that any finalized project in Audacity had to be exported as a Wav file, to be re-converted in MP3 later if need be.
Sucks to be old. :?

Sorry for the interruption, keep enjoying your Sunday!

IIRC, you need the LAME encoder, bluesy.
Didn't even need it!... I remember seeing prompts about downloading this "lame" thing before, but all it took was clicking on "export wav file" in Audacity and choosing the destination folder. All done.
I like Audacity again now. 8)

Pascal, I've downloaded something called "Soundpad Audio Editor" for free, and I can save things directly as MP3's in it, worth a try. The full free version expires after two weeks, but what's left after that is still enough for my needs.

Sounds good Walter thanks... I bet the leftover is enough for my needs too (trimming ends and fading out is basically all I need to do)

My turntable came with Audacity and I tried it briefly but couldn't figure out how to lower the input into the laptop. And I don't have patience so I've put off looking at it again. If anyone has experience ripping LP's to Audacity I could use some tips.

Ah... that's what "lame" does. Got it.

Q, nice pics. I forgot how cool a turn table looked. 8)

IIRC, you have to go into the advanced controls on the volume setting of the computer and lower it that way.

I think I tried that. Don't remember off hand. I'll just have to plug up the laptop and experiment some more then get back to you with more questions. And I'll have to get it working because the newest acquisition DID NOT come with a download code or CD copy. :weak:

But hey...it's Clutch day. \m/'-_-'\m/

I've used Audacity for years to record music from Youtube to MP3, works great. I've also recorded my Lp's to casette on my stereo. I then played the casette on my boombox which was plugged into my pc, and used Audacity to record it and save it as MP3.

I've been using Audacity to convert cassettes and LPs to mp3. There is a slider control for the input volume and a slider control for the output volume.

I also just use the output jacks on the back of my stereo receiver and the mic jack on my laptop. Works great.
