I tried this morning but I got wrapped up in something and missed it. It was a perfect morning for it, too.

Nope. But I did see Hale-Bopp back in 1997. That was spectacular!

It will still be around for the rest of this month apparently, and we should be able to see it in the evening sky.

I saw Hale-Bopp too, and yeah it was spectacular.

I also managed to see Kahoutek, but only because I was on a West coast flight above the clouds.

I think a large stand of trees is blocking my view. I was looking this morning but couldn't see it.

I was at sea for Hale Bopp, and we had spectacular views.

I'm still p***ed that Halley's was such a dud in 1986. 😭 It's not like I'll be around for the next pass (which may also be a dud anyway if the comet has lost too much mass to put on a show).

I remember traveling back from a gig in St. Louis with my bandmates when we saw the Hale Bopp comet. It was about 4:00 am in the morning in rural Illinois after passing the Cahokia Mounds. We stopped for coffee at some remote 7/11 and saw it so clearly in the sky. It was so amazing that it didn't even look real.

We encouraged the two cashiers to go outside to check it out, but they refused. They hadn't even heard of it, and I think they suspected we were going to rob them. We looked and smelled kinda scuzzy, so I understand.

When the sky clears up this weekend I'll take a ride up the PA NE Extension of the turnpike and check the comet out on the Poconos plateau then circle back around my stomping grounds.
They are beginning to have outside "social listening" events with local bands at PennsPeak. I won't attend but may drive by to see how many people attend. I think they were limiting it to 250 people and maximum group of 10 people at a table.

I was able to check out the comet last night during an evening dip in Lake Superior. Very cool!

Tonight it's at its peak and will be easily spotable about 6-80 minutes after sunset. If you have clear slies and can see close to the horizon, look to the NW.

Ditto what he said through some 10x50 pretty spectacular though they would be more fun on a tripod. Will have to set up a scope or two tonight for an even better look.

We could see it with our bare eyes through the awful western NJ light pollution, but just barely. It popped right into view with the binoculars and telescope, though.

Wow, that's so cool, thanks for sharing! Too many tall buildings and light where I am now and too many trees at my house so it's been impossible for me to see.
