Is that guitar shop still there?
We are off to squam lake soon, just wondering if there will be a couple old westerlies in the wall of that guitar shop. Been 20 years at least. Thanks.

Just took a quick photo tour of Squam Lake. Looks like it'll be different from McKinney. :smilet-digitalpoint

Have a great time and safe travels to you and yours,
Joe

thanks Joe, I cannot wait. Haven't been there in a long long time. My dad spent all his summers there as a kid in the 40s and early 50s. their 50th wedding anniversary. Should be cool. nice weather too. and the water is clear, unlike the man made lakes in TX :)

That's advantage of spring fed lakes over dammed up rivers! My family had a camp in Melvin Village on Lake Winnepesaukee when I was growing up, so I have a real affinity for the area, and know Squam Lake as well. I believe it's where "On Golden Pond" was filmed.

Bingo! I am about 45 minutes away. I go by there frequently, not every week, but probably a couple of times a month. You have got to be talking about this place: http://www.vintagefret.com/

I was just by there this past Sunday, but didn't stop. They usually have a nice selection of vintage guitars. When Hans' book couldn't be found anywhere, I was poking through the music and books etc., and there it was.

When you are up there, DO NOT miss this restaurant: http://www.hartsturkeyfarm.com It is a New England institution, as I like to say. Actually that's why I was by the music store last Sunday.

Never knew about that guitar shop, but I'll probably look for it this summer.

And I believe twocorgis is correct re: the Golden Pond / Squam Lake connection

Harts Turkey Farm! Old school New England tradition, for sure. There are better restaurants nearby (Camp and Lago are two that quickly come to mind), but I have fond memories of eating at Harts with parents & grandparents who are now long gone.

Enjoy your New Hampshire visit, Mr. Wood.

Thanks Geo. Tom, glad to hear it's still around. Will try to sneak over. But just found out we won't be at squam but at northeast pond/lake in Milton. I guess it's near Dover and Rochester.

Vintage Fret (Repair) is a really cool shop. We used to have a park home just a mile up the street from there, and I went in there frequently.

If they're still there, definitely go have a look. Not a lot of Guilds, but lots of Martins and some fine Taylors too. Plus, they have a cool selection of pretty uncommon other stringed instruments.
