Hello everyone! Just bought my first Guild this week from Rainbow Guitars. It's a 1986 X-500 in mint condition with it's original case. Looks like it has spent most of it's life in the case.

Thanks! I've wanted one of these ever since I was a kid passing by a music store in Seattle, and seeing one hanging from the wall. I'm thinking it's even more beautiful than my Gibson SJ-200...very stunning!

Welcome to the X-500 club!

Does yours have a sound post in the center of the guitar?

I don't think it has a sound post...at least I couldn't see one through the f-holes. Is it suppose to have one? I am still learning about these beautiful guitars!

Wow that's a beautiful X500! It's good to see more X500 examples! This one looks like it has a 1 11/16 nut width - does it? Mine has a 1 5/8, which feels a bit strange on a big jazz box. It took me a very long time to get used to it. Luckily I have small hands.

How does it sound? I struggled for years with its huge low end, but I resolved it by lowering the pickups. Now it sounds just lovely.

You can see/hear mine in my recent thread:

I don't think it's supposed to. I recently saw a 1988 with a sound post. And when reporting to Hans about that guitar's specs, he asked specifically about it.

Sorry for the slow response. I just measured the nut and it's 1 5/8th of an inch. I do find it very narrow...I have pretty large hands...so some chords are a little tight. Love the guitar and sound, but I don't have another archtop to compare it to.
