Just pre-ordered "A Strat in the Attic: Thrilling Stories of Guitar Archeology," by Deke Dickerson. Looks like it will be a fun read. Here's the overview:

Guitar sleuth and music-history detective Deke Dickerson tells the true tales of 50 thrilling rare guitar finds that will make guitarists green with envy. A golden Fender Stratocaster hidden away in an attic for 30 years. A sunburst Gibson Les Paul worth $100,000. Jimi Hendrix’s Strat burned by the guitarist during a concert—and then mysteriously lost for decades. The mint Fender Broadcaster forgotten under a bed in a neighbor’s house. The 1960s Rickenbacker bought for $50 at a garage sale! These days, classic vintage guitars can bring Ferrari and Porsche prices. Baby boomers who wish they’d been rock ’n’ roll stars have shot the market into the stratosphere for classic models. As with automobiles, finding that classic guitar stashed away beneath a bed, in a closet, hidden away in an attic, or in the dusty corner of a guitar shop is the Holy Grail.

Hopefully, there's a Guild or two in the bunch.

Betcha wish you'd kept that S-50 now, huh?
(Yeah I'm razzin' ya, I know you couldn't prove it belonged to Big Brother even though in our heart of hearts, we know it did.....and I can't use the LOL emoticon anymore)

Far from a pre-war Martin or Gibson or some vintage strat, but I did find a mid-'80s Washburn electric in the attic of our house after we moved in. Does that count as a score? Good working condition, but I am not really interested in electrics so it sits in the closet.

Already a few dozen pages into the book, and all I can say is that it is a very nice read. Some long reads, some short stories, but all very interesting and enjoyable. No sign of any Guild content though, but don't let that withold you from purchasing a copy. Highly recommended! I found and bought mine for a mere 18 euros including shipping on the 'Bay.

I was immediately put off by the first story about the '54 Telecaster, in that there was no photo of it. How can you write a book about guitarcheology, lead off with the story of perhaps your greatest find, and then not include a photo. A great effort otherwise, Mr. Dickerson, and I'll do my part to correct your oversight. I believe that's the aforementioned '54 Telecaster in Deke's hands.

Very cool. I'll be on the lookout for you, Walter. I'm still plowing through the Jim Harvey story.

Our own Walter Broes, immortalized on page 244. Way to go, Walter. Deke Dickerson called you a guitar geek. I don't know you were a guitar geek.

Coastie, your Charles Shaar Murray signature quote reminds me of his first impressions of The Clash, when he wrote in the NME that they were "the kind of garage band who should be speedily returned to their garage, preferably with the engine running".

Also, I want to make a pitch to bring back the Chairman Meow avatar! We want Chairman Meow! We want Chairman Meow!

... and now back to our regularly scheduled post.

TF. Among many other things, CSM authored a great biography on John Lee Hooker. From whence came the quote.

The Chairman lives at Photobucket and, I'll be buggered if I can post him ( or anything else ) as my avatar.

Meanwhile, here's the Kommie Kitty ...........

Bring back the Kommie Kitty.

This absence cannot be tolerated. I have stolen the avatar as a temporary measure to assist in restoring the Kitty to its rightful place.

(Humor aside, if the Kitty appears as my avatar that eliminates several possibilities and allows me to work with coastie to figure out what is wrong).

Alright! Go Kommie Kitty!

Yeah, I guess I am. A pretty bad one too. Not as bad as ol' Derek, but still pretty bad.
And Walter, in the case of being a guitar geek, being "bad" actually is a good thing. It's all in how you look at it. Bad as in baaaaaddd, man!

I was gonna ask you about that...

Well for starters we somehow wound up with a National Health Plan recently.
Oh, now I get it, that's not what you meant....sorry.
