A wedding/bride blog interviewed bassist Catherine Popper (here) for reasons known best to them. However I was amused by the the photo of her "tools".

That's a 60's Precision, if it is original, or a modern copy since she is currently a Fender endorser.
I can't say anything informative about her double bass.
Her Starfire I has been discussed several times on LTG. It is an (early) 1967.

the stand up is an 1850's flat back french double bass. She just toured the entire globe with it on Jack White's tour. If you see a picture of it from Jack's shows covered in black...that is black paper covering the bass, it's her 1850's that is pictured in this thread. She also used it extensively with Ryan Adams, Norah Jones, Levon Helm, and many, many others.

The P-bass is a 1966 completely all original. its pretty beat up but sounds unreal. There is a current Fender reissue of that bass the "1962 type P-bass" or "early 60's" or something (same as Jamerson's)...but oddly enough that is NOT one of the re-issue basses they sent Cat. they gave her a road worn series P-bass (sunburst with a maple fretboard) and an orange/red road-worn series Jazz bass. so it is easy to tell her original 66 from the others. Cat has had this bass for maybe 10 years or a little longer. I asked her how many hours she thinks she has played it and she hasn't got a clue. I can say though in 2010 and 2011 she played at least 500 hours each of those years just during live shows (with Grace Potter), not including rehearsals, studio sessions, songwriting, practice, or anything else. she only played the P-bass with Grace Potter, no other basses with that band.

that interview and pic are from a couple weeks ago, thanks for posting. If anyone is in New York, Cat has some shows coming up in Brooklyn with some of her girlfriends. I have heard the Guild Starfire in that room/thru that amp and it just sounds unreal. Nobody plays bass like Cat. she has a style that is unmistakeable to the ear, and she is an amazing player.

That is the lineup I am expecting, yes, but I honestly can't confirm. I can give u a solid "probably" BUT...sometimes it is just Cat and Sasha. Or they will bring out other friends/musicians to play with them. Especially around the holidays. Sometimes it is just Sasha and one of her bands, but I know Cat is playing these shows with her.

I also cannot say for sure that Cat will definatley have the Guild Starfire bass. She usually does for this band, but I have seen her use the jazz bass instead once or twice, and last time she had the stand up, which she used to use all the time. Not sure if that was in tribute to Levon, or she just had been playing it so much with Jack White at the time, that she decided to use it that night. Probably a combination of the 2.

Last disclaimer: many of their shows are very epic, but others are more like a rehersal or sound check. It can be sloppy at times...but it's still always awesome. And my guess is they are actually rehearsing for these shows. I have seen them play a very short, single set (half hour - 45 minutes?)...and other shows have topped 2 hours and even had set breaks. I never really truly know the deal-if I havnt made that abundantly clear yet- but always happy to be there no matter what the circumstances. Also they are quite the comedy act!

A handful of the shows though, have been truly amazing.

Anyone in New York that wants to go see Cat in January please send me a private message, cheers

Just to clarify these will be public shows, not a rehersal or private show. I expect an official announcement very soon. Maybe tomorrow (Friday), which is Catherine's birthday

If the message is sitting in the Outbox then it means that the receiver has not opened or read it. Happens a lot to me when crossing time zones and such.

Cat announced the first show on her Facebook page yesterday. It's tommorow night and is listed as "puss n boots". There was even mention of a rehrsal. Sorry I couldn't check in here sooner. Anyone that contacted me directly though has had all the info they need and more for several days. There will be a total of 3 shows in January. Cheers

they played about an hour set. the girls looked and sounded fantastic.
they also have the burlesque dancer back for these shows. i have seen a ton of live shows but this is definately the only band i know of that rolls with a stripper.

tonights show was standard. but they are going to mix in a bunch of new originals and covers the next couple weeks. Cat is also due to play something other than bass so for at least part of one of the next shows she will be on guitar or maybe some piano or pedal steel.

here's some footage

Norah Jones also sometimes played her Starfire III at those Puss N Boots shows:
