A big beautiful robust rosewood side and back Guild jumbo. Huge deep forest tones galore. This is want I yearn for many many years. Plays like butter, articulate, dynamic. I really would like one. Old school, used, loved, played, I am on the hunt.
There are so many models, I am truly lost. Please point me in the right direction. Discuss :)

I can relate. I'd like to get my hands on a maple jumbo. My 12-string is rosewood and sings like a nightingale. But I'd like some maple clarity as a contrast. I really like jumbos and when I play my 12, there are times when I wish it were a six. I'll probably look to trade a mandolin for one if i can. Otherwise, it'll be a while before i have the cash.

You should have bought the one I got for West, Jay.

Good ones pop up fairly often. A little patience will pay off here. I'll be watching.

I have a Westerly F-412 12-string (maple, jumbo, bowl-shaped back) ) for sale, in super-duper condition, if anyone is interested. (In fact I have two, which is why I've decided to sell one.)

Cost is $1500.00, plus shipping for LTGers. I'm in the Boston area.

Does anyone know, or have an opinion: I was a rosewood sides-and-back guy for many years, till discovering the maple Guilds, which, to my ears, are both louder than the rosewood F-512s and are clearer and more balanced in the mid-ranges.

But what I've wondered is this: is it the maple that's responsible for the distinct clarity and projection of these guitars, or is it the one-piece, non-braced, bowl-shaped back that Guild employed on their maple guitars?

Jay,

I'm a big fan of the rosewood jumbos (and now the mahogany jumbos). Oh yeah, I also like the maple. :) :)

My F-50R is still available, but it's fairly steep.

Personal opinion based on my F65ce: Clarity and midrange is due to maple (actually due to slightly less bass response inherent in maple); projection is due to archback. I suspect it was a carefully planned combination 8)

I haven't posted at LTG for a LONG time, but I am still enjoying my early 90's JF55. First of all, it's a joy to look at. I am such a huge fan of the pearl/abalone block inlays and the best looking headstock in the world of guitars, the bound Guild headstock with the G-shield. And it's nice to play - good action, nice neck, nothing to complain about there. It's nice to listen to as well. Not the loudest guitar I own, but surely the sweetest, and definitely the most sustain. Best finish? Nope. Cleanest construction? Nope. Worth having? Yes! Worth looking for til you find one? No doubt!

What he said, except mine is a 2007 F50R instead of an early '90s JF55. Everything else applies.

I used to own a Guild F50R and boy do I miss that guitar. I just found the 1 11/16 nut width too narrow. If it weren't for that I would still own that guitar today.
