past couple weeks I've been spraying coat after coat of black lacquer on the top to hide the repairs, then block sanding to get a perfect finish. I think I just put the final coat on last evening, I'll go home after work tonight and wet sand it then put a coat of shellac over it. Post a pic later.

The rest of the body I've left unpainted. it's all sanded down to the mahogany. what should I do to finish it? shellac the whole thing?

Secondly, call me cheep but $80 for a Guild tail stop? for that price it might as well be a bigsby setup.....I may just go with some Gibson hardware for the stop and bridge.

Please opinions welcome, what should I do with this guitar.

just a quick coat of shellac, I'm going to proceed with the rest of the body as a french polish.

I'm seeing Bigsby tailpieces B70 for Les Paul on ebay for around $80...not sure what to do

I know... just not the same M80. but it's a hundred times better looking than before the repair.

I'm not judging, man :) I'm sure it's gonna be a fine-playing and sounding guitar when it's finished. The ball's in your court.

aw shucks, I just can't get the finish to turn out right. The shellac is easy enough to work with, but I blew a hole through the shellac while sanding and I just kept putting more layers of shellac over it thinking it will go away. Gave up last night after the umpteenth time of shellacking, I've got to redo the paint.

I got my original tail stock from Hans though!

Don't beat yourself up about it, man. The job you took on requires a lot of skill and effort. Plus you're not a machine - and people have been known to make mistakes here and there

I'm sure you'll make it worth your efforts in the end. Look on the bright side, you got the stock parts, now all you have to do is to put this whole thing together.
