Hello, I`m a newby here and joined to see if I can get some idea of value and/or history behind a Guild guitar I bought online. It is a `74 D 25 C, the C designation, I assume is for color? It is cherry in color and came with a case, I`m hoping a Guild case, fits good, sounds like a Mercedes door as it closes. I`ve just gotten the strings in today (Elixir light gauge with coating) and it seems to sound pretty good. I`ve owned Martins, Gibsons, Epiphones, etc. and it sounds about the same as my old D28 Martin that was tragically lost. Did I make a good deal at $400??

First of all, welcome to the LTG crew.
From the way it sounds and all things considered, I'd venture to say that you made a good enough deal.
How does it feel/sound to you? That's the main thing.

You'll like it here, jb, so stay tuned and stay in tune,
Joe

Welcome. Sounds like a reasonable deal. I believe the C is for cherry but someone who knows more will be along real soon.

Just loggin in from my in-laws in Mansfield, MA to say welcome to LTG! If your D-25 is in good shape, I'd say you got a great deal! I've a '74 D-25M... same guitar, different stain... D-25s are definitely favoriteds around here!

We've all (or almost all) been through the host website blues for the pics....
Keep playing with it, you'll figure it out. Here's a tutorial by our own "Default", posted here before:

Welcome and congrats on the new old Guild. I have a '76 that I bought brand new, still have it, still love it. Yes, "C" stands for "Cherry" finish, which is a slightly brighter red color than my D-25M (Mahogany stain) Because of the "C" designation, yours probably has a spruce top like mine, yours was right in that transition period where Guild switched from mahogany tops to spruce tops on the D-25's.

Yep, spruce top, mahogany back and sides, still smells like mahogany, barely used. Tunes good and holds it for a few days (so far I haven`t had to touch it) so it seems to be in excellent shape. Picture`s coming...

I have virtually that same guitar.....1979, cherry color, on my paper label, it is hand written in D-25M. HOWEVER, the back and sides are mahogany (arched back laminate), but the top is very finely grained Spruce with that same red or cherry finish. I thought D-25M meant all mahogany, but this is not the case with mine......go figure....
