Hi All
There's a 1998 SF-4 on ebay #AG001190 and the bid is hanging in the high 800 dollar mark. It looks in great shape, should be a Westerly and I just wondering why the price is not higher. I may jump in the bidding on my first SF-4. Also can anyone tell me width of the rear bout of the SF-4.

Thanks
Northernblue

I think I found the one you were talking about on the ebay. I'd bet it goes for higher, but sometimes you can snag a deal. Seems like around 1100 give or take on that year Starfire would be a normal price.

A lot people will hang back and bid in the last few minutes. It'll likely go quite a bit higher.

What do you mean by the width of the rear bout? I'm happy to measure mine, which was made around the same time.

Hi GAD
Sorry I met the lower bout or across the F holes from edge to edge. Im thinking it's as wide as a 335.

Thanks

Mine is 16 1/2" at its widest point. Serial# AG0014xx

I can tell by the pics on Ebay that it has better pickups than mine. Mine had Fender HB1s. The ones on Ebay are SDs. Nice. Otherwise mine could be a twin right down to the 'hog neck, which I love. I hunted long and hard for mine. I even picked it over two vintage SFIVs I had because I like the wider necks on the reissues. Here's mine:

Thanks Gad
Nice pics, nice guitar. I'm in the bidding. You raise another question how wide is the neck at the nut?

Reissues like mine are 1 11/16" at the nut. Vintage Starfires (and most, if not all vintage Guild electrics) are 1 5/8" at the nut. The vintage guitars also seem to have really skinny necks, which my big hands just did not enjoy. The skinny vintage necks has been what's kept me out of Q-Man and Thunderpant's den of S-100 depravity. :D

What year did Guild begun not using the trapeze string set-up, and go to what is shown in your images?

Thasnk you,
Craig

You mean the tailpiece? I believe that changed in the early 80s...

I know '79s had the harp tailpiece and '82s has the stop tailpiece, but I couldn't be any more specific than that. Hans would know for sure. Knowing Guild it's probably more complicated than that anyway. :)
