A friend of mine at work has this 1986 G37 that he wants to sell, and doesn't have any idea about how to price it.

It comes with a hardshell case, and is in good to very good shape.

Me being an electric guy, I don't even being to know how to price a guitar like this. Any suggestions? At one time, the guitar had a crack on the top from the bridge to the back edge, but my friend was living in Rhode Island at the time and took it to the Guild factory in Westerly to have it repaired. I'm thinking that might be were the Z came from on the back of the headstock?

That looks like a nice example. Can your friend verify the origin of the "Z"? Maybe the mark of Zorro? Maybe it's really a 2?

G37's are valued at about 900-1000 bucks in the Vintage Guitar Guide. I feel that the book runs a bit high, but that's what it says.

I don't know if you add or subtract for a Z. :D

My observations on Craigslist and eBay is that G-37s range from about $450 to about $950, depending on age and condition. Based on what you've told us, this one might go in the middle of that range.

If we can attract Gardman's attention, he could give us a pretty fair estimate. He's a bit of a Guild Dreadnought aficionado........

That is a really pretty burst! Don't know about the Z... Iv'e not seen that as a mark of a "second" before. If you're friend was going to go with eBay, I'd say it might go for anywhere from $500-800. Maybe a bit more, since it is such a pretty one. I'd probably start it at $500, no reserve, and hope for $750. If CL, I'd probably advertise it at $750, but take $600 or $650, depending on how desperate I was. Of course, I probably wouldn't sell it...
Good luck!

And this one, advertised by a seriously delusional fella for $2700; http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/msg/1598699214.html

Here's mine, bought about 2 years ago for $500, & spent another $125 or so having it tweaked. Likely the best Guild buy I've made. Dunno what the real market price might be, however, when priced $800 + on Craigslist here in Seattle they seem to hang around for a while.

If this link workls it give some more recent & current G37 listings: http://www2.jaxed.com/cgi-bin/mash.cgi? ... ++++go++++

It's a 1978, near as I can figure.

Has a five piece neck & these clunky tuners. Pretty heavy guitar, I suspect the tuners are part of the issue.

Thanks, guys. I knew I could count on you for some good answers.
This forum is all about answers: the good, the bad, and the (sometimes) ugly.

But this is still the place to be, especially if you're into being Guilded and GASsed at a one-stop shop!
