Found a D 17M in a pawn shop today. Nice action, some light checking on the back and a mar about 1/2 inch wide and 2 inches long on the front lower bout. I think this can be buffed out. No cracks, no repairs. Comes with ohsc in good condition. Wants $590 tax included. That's pictures of dead presidents of course.

What do y'all think, that a good price?

Blue Book places the value for a D-17 in average condition between $550-$650. If it has a decent case and it speaks to you...offer $425-$450 and try to dicker the price to somewhere south of $500. If he's firm then he's in the mid-range. Others may want to weigh in.

Good news is you get to try your hopeful out thoroughly. My last two Guilds came over the Internet. Fortunately, they were Guilds!

Offer $500, hope for $550, but if it speaks to you, take it at $590 if he won't budge.

What GardMan said. D17's aren't all that common. A great all hog dread, mellow tone , but louder than most. I love mine, has a K&K PWM and sounds super through an amp. Through a good mic, even better. Guild has a way with mahogany.

Owned one for a while....they were a D-15 with a few more embellishments...nice cream body binding. The arched back made it one loud guitar. A great D25 type of guitar. Do you think you can handle that much Mahogany?

The price, if the guitars is average condition, is about right. Offer them a whatever you think you might get it for....all they can do is decline it.

I just purchased a D-15M with the original Guild HSC for $500. The guitar is near mint (only 1-2 small blemishes) and the case is road-worn but ready to continue serving. I probably could have offered the guy less but he offered to travel to meet me so I let the price stand.

I hope this helps as a frame of reference.

Good price if its in good condition. I stupidly passed on a D-17 about a year ago, guy offered it for $500. Wish I'd bought it now!

Go back to the shop...tell him your boss sent you there to negotiate....if he won't budge ask him if he likes race horses....if he still won't budge, thank him kindly, pay the $590 and leave with a smile on your face. Heck...what's $90 on a twenty or so year investment on enjoyment?

Don't forget to kiss him on both cheeks when you leave.
