hey guys
just dug my guild out of the closet after 20 yrs or so.......found it at a pawn shop early 90's maybe
not sure what the previous owner was thinkin but they decided they wanted a totally unique guitar and painted it with fleckstone plastikote.......turquoise dust to be exact
now im into one off wierd stuff and i fell in love with the shape and i knew guild was a good guitar so i bought it.....at the time i even thought the paint looked cool
didnt have the original case but it has a hard plastic rectangular case with foam inside.......which i recently discovered foam is bad.....atleast in fla it is
when i opened the case and grabbed the guitar half the foam came with it.....from tuners to base .......luckily it was only on one side and it actually came off pretty easy
i noticed the paint was comming off on one corner so i scrape it with my fingernail and it is soft and comes right off.....so i got some off and then grabbed a paring knife.....dont worry i was very careful and didnt dig into the wood.......and after a few hours it was all off
the base is a beautiful mahogany and it has a blonde maple neck with the pointy head (which is black but looks repainted) so i decided to leave it natural cuz whoever painted it totally removed the orig finish......i found a little bit of black inside the back so best guess is it was black
im almost done with 120 grit (he left some scratches across the grain) then ill do some 220 before i top coat it.....any suggestions on how i should finish it?.....oil?.....urethane?
ill try to post some pics
oh yea serial number is HD100022......and im not calling it a swan because they didnt change the name until 85 lol......honestly i didnt even know it was rare until last night thx to you guys.....glad ur here
