My wife surprised me with this guitar for Father's Day. It's a beauty, pretty mint. She managed to talk him down from $2,800.00 to $1,700.00 which may or may not be a good deal, not sure. Very nice guitar though.

My question is, is this the original 1965 case? I doubt it. Does anyone know for sure? The info is much appreciated.

Beautiful guitar Steve! I've never tried an X175 with humbuckers.

That case looks too new to be original, but I could be wrong.

All of the features are of an original case. It almost does look too new to be original but if it was under the bed for the last 50 years it could be that nice. The case my '66 Starfire XII came in looks just as new.

Gorgeous guitar! You are a lucky man to have a wife that would buy you that!

See, it's an old case. That's easy to tell. BUT, the color of the lining is not period correct, is it? The clasps are brass not chrome and there is NO Guild badge.

It's possible the person bought the guitar with a "music store case" back in the day...

Heck, maybe the seller will give me a few hundred more off..

Has she got a unattached (not unhinged) sister, with the same characteristics? I'm willing to relocate.

Great wife....really special! My late 60s d50 which I got new had a Guild case with no badge or plate, but it too had brass hinges ... And the guitar itself had brass....... Never mind. Steffan

I have six or seven cases with that color lining. though I do believe they all have Guild name plates. Not sure about the hinge material.

With the condition that guitar is in I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about the case!

It seems to me that, back then, guitars and cases were priced and sold separately. Any number of combinations are possible from that time.

Agreed. A Guild case for a 175 in 1965 would have been $52.00. A "music store case" would have been 1/3 of that..

Case? What case? If it came in a plastic bag looking like it does I wouldn't care. Enjoy! and +1 on the unattached sister inquiry...unhinged is okay if she will buy me Guild toys like that.

I wouldn't mind about the case, it seems to fit perfectly. But you would feel it on the foam inside, in a 1965 model the foam would be mostly gone I guess. The case looks like a relatively new aftermarket case. A 1965 factory Guild case definitely would have had a metal Guild sign on it, exactly like that one:

Agreed.

The guitar itself is amazing though. Never played an X-175 from that era before. It's sound is slightly "Starfire like" (because of the pickups) but a lot fatter with more midband goodness and a more pronounced but sweeter top end.

It's damn yummy!

Can't help with the case question but just want to say that your sunburst is a beaut! Seems like a reasonable price to me :) Congratulations

Thanks. Because it's a GUILD guitar, no one really knows what it's worth in the world.

I mean, this has to be the most undervalued guitar brand in history. Nonetheless it's great for us Guild fans because we can get the guitars we love without paying Gibson Funny Money for them.
