I was reading about these CE 100s in the Guild book and then found this clip.
I did a search and didn't see any post related to this so sorry if it is a repeat.
Since I've never seen or heard one of these it was cool to actually hear one on youtube.
The clip sounds like this guy may play Teles - but fun anyway.
These are pretty cool old Guilds:

Now it's my turn to be a little nostalgic -- that's my old CE, though Billy has clearly made it his own.

That's a really ballsy little archtop.

Hey Treem, that guitar in the clip you posted now belongs to a friend of mine. I've played it, and it's a grrreat guitar, has just been refretted, and it's awesome.

I have a guy interested in trading me a 1959 CE-100 for my parts Tele. I am waiting for pics so I can post it here and find out if it is all original and all that, but seeing these videos of one in action really makes me consider it even more. I know it has a Lindy Fralin p-90 in it rather than the original, missing a fretboard inlay and the bridge looks to be a replacement but not sure about the rest.

I'd trade that for a tele in a heartbeat, but I'm usually happier playing hollowbodies than I am playing solids - even though I love my telecaster.
Depends on how attached you are to that telecaster I guess, and how much money you have in it.

I have $1200 into my Tele, it is one I built. How much do these 50's CE-100's typically go for? I guess my concern is that I wont be able to play it first and the missing fret marker. But I definitely like the looks of it. Does this burst look like an original color from that period?

Seller says

"I have a few more pics that I need to find and will send to you. Guitar plays like a dream. Fast neck and action. Has a P-90 Lindy Fralin in it. Missing one fretboard inlay marker. I got in a trade for a amp I had and I am not a Hollowbody type guitar player and am just trying to either trade it or sell it. It has a bluish case which I have no idea if it came with the guitar, Guild guitars I know very little about. It sits in the case in my closet and I have played it about twice. However as a owner of several vintage and new guitars I would rate its condition as on par with that age but plays really neat and easy and has serious vibe to it. I will try and find other pics so you can see it better"

Finish looks like it's probably original, though you can never *really* tell from a picture, but pickup, bridge, and tuners have been replaced - so it's not the greatest deal out there if you have $1200 in that tele. I've seen single pickup CE-100's go for (considerably) less than that on Ebay, and hardly ever for more - and the missing/replaced parts on this one would put it at the low end of the price scale for that model.

But that's all theory of course - if you sit down with the Guild and fall in love with it, logic goes out the window, right? :D

yep, but I would be trading blindly so I will probably hold off and just sell the Tele. In the past I have been guildy of too many impulse buys!

I wouldn't pay $1200 for that CE. It's still probably got a lot of character, but at minimum the tuners, bridge, and electronics have been swapped out, and it looks to me like it's been stripped, too (though as Walter says, it may be original). For comparison, this very clean T-100 from the same era went without a bid at $999:

I was tempted to grab it, but don't really need it, and can't really afford a random purchase.

All things equal, I'd prefer a CE, but I'd pay considerably more for the T-100 above than for the CE that you're looking at.

yessir, the more I consider it I think m best bet is to sell the Tele. I really want an S-100 or a nice M75 Bluesbird, but I would consider both a CE-100 and T-100. I am sure the CE-100 he is trading would be a very nice sounding guitar but there are too many uncertainties with it for me to trade blindly
