GOT 12'S on my D55 how many of you use 13-56's and have you ever had any trouble with the heavier gauge on the guilds? but being fairly new to the guilds i want to make sure all will be good if i go with the 13's

I'm sure some folks are using mediums on the D55. I use Elixir PB lights. The booklet that came with it recommended lights. Mine is a Corona build.

Guilds are tanks.
They will hold up to medium gauge strings and the sound will be even better than if you are using lights.

The one thing that you will want to do is be sure to keep the humidity of the guitar within the correct range.
This applies to all wooden guitars, of course.

Guild puts lights on most guitars because lights feel softer and many players like the softer touch.
Me, I like the best that a guitar will offer me, so I choose to use mediums.

Picker,

Just wondering if you've tried other string materials before moving up to mediums... I.e., if you're looking for more warmth, have you tried Phosphor Bronze and or Red Brand Copper strings? If you're looking for more edge, have you tried 80/20 Bronze? If you're looking for a mellower, quieter sound, have you tried silk and steel?

Just keep in mind that there's about 25 pounds more pull on the bridge/neck with 13s than with 12s. You might consider tuning down a half step which would mitigate that. You also might find that some of the wound strings bind a little bit in the nut during tuning. Use a pencil lead and grind a little graphite into the nut before you string 'em up.

For what it's worth, I just put a set of John Pearse P/B mediums on my F50R the other day, and I kind of like them.
