Lennon's Framus Hootenanny 12 String Found

Beatles’65 is the first album I ever bought (only had 45s up to that point), and my 14 year old pea brain wanted to hear it over & over again. Dropped the needle too hard on Honey Don’t, creating a skip. Lost a verse in there but still played it over & over again, to the point that years later...

    Info on 1980 Guild F-20NT

It’ll be long scale, with a 1-11/16” nut. Here’s the one I bought new in the mid to late ‘70s. Nice playability, but the bass response was too weak for my fingerpicking style, creating a significant lack of balance from string to string. Still, this was just a sample of one.

    Anything negative Oxnard D-40s?

My only comment is that the binding should be white! Oh, and an F-40 should be a real 16” F-40! And they need to make the F-30, too! Will now go back to crying in my beer.

    NGD: D20

Yes, that’s the shape I prefer. Could you please share where you purchased it? Don’t need one right now, but you never know.

Has the price of low end Guilds gone up recently?

Regardless of all the causal factors, the market is finally treating Guilds like the quality US-made instruments that they are. Doesn’t look like the clock will be turning back anytime soon.

    Import factory closing?

The three Terada-Japan made Epiphones I own are finely crafted instruments. It would be wonderful to have Guild partner with them, but prices would have to reflect that level of quality & would invariably be well north of their current electric offerings.

    Josh White slothead.

Perhaps Guild made two guitars for Josh White? Or maybe it was just one guitar, and the smaller pickguard was at some point replaced by a slightly larger one? Inquiring minds would love to know!

New Guitar. A Decision Must Be Made.

It’s probably far from a coin flip. If you had both instruments available to compare, one would most likely jump clearly out on top due to playability & tone considerations. Look carefully at the neck width & overall profile, fingerboard radius, fret size, scale length, pickup reviews, etc...

    Dickey Betts dies at 80

Clapton’s Les Paul tone on the Beano album, along with a few similar Yardbirds solos, was my favorite stuff from his body of work. He was primarily after Freddie King’s gorgeous tone from the ‘50s (when King played an LP with P90s). Crossroads is probably the only thing from the Cream era I...

    Josh White slothead.

I watched this segment on History Detectives when it aired years ago, and it is currently still available on PBS Passport. If you have Passport, just search “Josh White” and it’ll come up. An extended clip of Josh White Jr being interviewed is also available. Very interesting historically...

    F-30 body dimensions...

Oh boy - Dave, that’s a real beauty!

Is this fixable - how bad it this? Acoustic issue binding or sides separating.

It’s the binding. Many Martins built since 2012 have suffered this fate - often in all four waist corners, and it can happen in a flash without warning signs. Find a luthier who is familiar with this repair & have it done sooner rather than later.

    Fretboard radius and playability

Typically, I prefer the more rounded 12” radius as opposed to the flatter 16”, but as Chris said, there are many other neck dimensions that come into play, as well as the unique size & shape of you hands! Most of my guitars have a 12” radius, but some with 16” also feel comfortable, usually...

    X-150 with a Lollar CC?

I really like the 1000, too. Another option might be P94s - essentially a P90 in a humbucker housing. Had them in a Valensi Riviera & liked them a lot. Currently have a pair waiting to go into a Chet Atkins Tennessean (Gibson version), if I ever get around to it!

    NGD - Gagliano by Kay

Can’t get much better than that! A very cool find, and amazing condition considering, as mentioned, how most of these guitars were rode hard. Have to say, you brought back a few fond ‘70s flea market memories with those pics, including a pressed solid-spruce topped Kay from the ‘40s - and so...

    NGD non-Guild content

Okay, I got curious & had to Google it, too. Quickly found the serial number along with the factory checklist date in a 2014 thread from the Gibson forum. Sure not like the old days when you had to dig like a mad man to get a little scrap of detailed guitar info!

    New Jumbos(to me)

No question, they are vastly different, so you naturally need to keep them both - along with all those other beauties!

    NGD non-Guild content

Wow, don’t know how you managed to dig out the details, but yes, that sounds right! It was the first one listed by American Musical Supply, and they took 15% off after some negotiating, so iirc it was in the neighborhood of $1275. The specs kind of blew me away for the bucks, and the walnut...

    NGD non-Guild content

Very nice Coug! In 2014, I purchased one of the first J-15s off the line, and it had a custom shop logo on it - only one I ever saw like that until they came out with the sunburst model. It eventually gave way to the funding of my current J-50. Sonically, it was closer to maple than anything...
