    M-75 Aristocrat Dynasonic

Oops! I should have just said DeArmond vintage 2000. The Gretsch version of the pickup is in my parts drawer but they are circa 2000 pickups. (Actually, I just installed one in the bridge position of a Surfliner that I have under modification construction.)

    M-75 Aristocrat Dynasonic

Interesting to see that Starfire 3 with Dynasonics and block inlays. Their was a special run of SF3's in the late '60's with that design. I had purchased such a guitar from BillyDLite years ago. It was a mahogany body. Unfortunately I did let it go after after a while and sold it off.

    M-75 Aristocrat Dynasonic

A bit expensive. Maybe installing a set of DeA vintage in a NS Aristocrat would be a workable idea. It looks like a bezel was cut out of a pickup bezel. I have used a similar technique in the past.

    NAD Guild 40-T

Wow!! Cover and foot pedal included! That version with the separate preamp and power amp sections is the one I hung onto. There is another version with both stages in a single chassis. I have some cab vibration issues with mine. Also useful to wrap some foam pipe insulation around the handle to...

Feeling like spending over a quarter million on an amp?

If I recall correctly when SRV was just getting going he played at Montauex and apparently got booed! However David Bowie and Jackson Brown were at the show and realized the greatness they just witnessed. Bowie got SRV to play the lead riff on his song "China girl" and Jackson Brown invited SRV...

    "California" Pickups

I was under the impression that California pickups were a Japanese designed and build pickup.

Guild Maverick Bass - Power Tube Options

If you want a Guild amp with 6550 finals you need a late 60's Quantum Bass head. It has to be the "big" head that says Thunderbass with the metal sticker that says Quantum. This is a larger head cab than a standard Thunderbass amp. The head is made of two parts. The front panel is screwed into...

    Guild pickups

Dump the Epi and get a Guild! LOL. Still not sure what you are interested in. A set of HB1 have been listed around $500. Not sure if they ever sell at that price. I would hold on to them for a while and see if a bargain Guild comes along in need of HB1's.

Help with potential keyboard/digital piano (Roland) purchase

A friend of mine bought one of these. He told me the 88 key can be had for less $ than the 76 key. The reason: the keyboard is so big (long) it won't fit in many cars!

Wow...that is an "odd duck" experiment!

    New Corona Starfire III

I never realized that Corona guitars used Fender HB1's with Guild HB1 bezels! Those adapter ears are not on the later guitars that had bezels with the closer spaced double mounting screws. The Fender HB-1 are also heavily wax potted. To my knowledge Guild HB-1's were not potted which is why...

    S70D Control Layout

I have two S-70. The first one I purchased acquired had a cracked pickguard and some dings in its brown burst type finish. The interesting thing was it was not wired up in the stock configuration. When I examined the wiring and solder joints they looked "original". Essentially the By-Pass switch...

    T-50 vs X-50

Typically the guitars built in Westerly tend to be constructed with with thicker wood so that could also be a factor to consider. Not sure if any T-50's were built from scratch in Westerly or if Guild used left over body husks on the 70's models. Never played an X-50 but I suspect it to be a...

Looking for reviews on a Guild M-65 Freshman

Freshman come in full size and 3/4. If you purchase a earlier Freshman with a single Franz pickup you could add a 2nd bridge pickup. After 1962 the pickup types change to the chrome soap bar single coil and then later around 1965 they have the Mickey Mouse. So depending what pickup choices you...

    DeArmond M75T History

The DeArmond M75 and M75T were/are great guitars. I still have a M75 and am looking for a deal on a M75T or M77T. I had owned both models but sold them and naturally have sellers remorse. Not sure how many were made. The M75/M75T have a little deeper/thicker body than the M77T/M77T. If I recall...

    Starfire I vs Starfire V

What color are you looking for? They added a brown burst to the blue and green double cutaway with Guildsby. You can add a Bigsby or Guildsby to a hard stop model. A Bigsby with a special mounting plate called a Vibramate allows you to mount a Bigsby and it can be undone and returned to stock...

    Starfire I vs Starfire V

An additional and significant point is the NS SF made in Korea using the smaller "anti hum" humbuckers which have a distinctly different sound when compared to full size humbuckers. Hardware is better quality. The Indonesian SF1 has coil splitting feature using push/pull volume POT's so you...

    This picture is too loud

Cool! I saw Cactus in July '72 at Concert 10 at Poconos International Raceway. They were the 3rd band up when the show started around noon. Outdoor Festival sound wasn't overpowering but the crowd, heat and then late afternoon into evening downpour took its toll on the crowd. Around 6am the next...

    This picture is too loud

Looks to me that the Kustom is a PA head with the 4 input channels. The side chrome bracket is typical of the PA heads that mount into the chrome tubular mounting stand that allows the head to be pivoted at different angles. Not sure of the power output but typically the model number is 2x the...

NGD - my new Starfire I DC!

I have to admit that the SF1 DC is a really great guitar. I have a similar one and am always blown away by the quality of the build. I tend to keep the neck pickup in single coil mode and the bridge in HB. One of these days I'm going to do a deep dive comparison of the SF1 DC against the made...
