soooo much talent in that band! RIP Mr Rhodes :( he wrote some bass lines that fit where others would never think to place them... he was actually a big influence in my most recent (and likely final) bass rig purchase.

Vince plays a solo like he tells a story... topic don't matter much, but you stop what you are doing and listen for a spell.

Vince Gill is a fine guitarist. Love this clip, including a brief phone call with Chet Atkins (beginning about 1:25):

And he's a great storyteller, too!

Quick story about Vince Gill who is really really a nice man. I am a retired teacher/basketball and baseball coach. One of my former basketball players played on the PGA Tour for a several years (good putter not a great putter hence just several years). Vince Gill loves golf and he and my former basketball player play lots of golf together. In December of 1996 the team I coached was playing in a Holiday tournament near Nashville and when the game ended Vince and Bob met me as we walked off the floor headed to locker room and Bob says, "coach, can Vince and I come into the locker room with y'all."
Of course they could and as the team sat in the chairs in front of me waiting for my post game remarks, their concentration on basketball was not to be found. I said, "Have a great Christmas" and they surrounded Vince. So gracious - he signed something for 12 players and a manager. No cell phones then. Been a Vince Gill fan every since.

The Telemaster!

Man, rarely do you see a fingerboard that evenly worn. That guy is all over the instrument. Very cool and very masterful.

Having said that, and no offense intended, but a lot of that fancy stuff is just too showy for Sleepwalk. Just my opinion. Jeff Beck would've been a lot less flashy, IMO.

Keep in mind, a lot of the song was edited out…sax solo, etc. Danny was also the perfect backing player that is happy playing chords while a band mate gets the spotlight. He never really wanted the shredders spotlight. It wasn’t until he was on the cover of Guitar Player mag being called “The greatest guitarist you’ve never heard of!”, that crowds began to morph from local friends/fans to a room full of guitarists expecting to see him impress, and so that’s what they got. Brian Setzer’s Sleepwalk was also a shredders dream, as was Stevie Ray Vaughn’s.

I got to see Danny a few times in the late 80’s. An absolute marvel. I feel really lucky to have had both Gatton and Roy Buchanon live and play regularly in my general area.

Young Vince back during his "hippier" days:

I've been a Vince Gill and PPL fan since the 70's. It's why I have a couple of "Sad Luke" prints hanging in the house. I always loved the Norman Rockwell "Sad Luke" album covers.
