I thought you guys might get a kick out of this. Attached is a picture of "The Tank." A case for a trumpet that is virtually indestructible. Even the latches are so heavy duty that it just can't open unprovoked. :)

Inside this case is an irreplaceable Mt. Vernon Bach trumpet (which is another story entirely) but I'm curious what kind of flight cases you guys might've come across that you think are the bees knees and which really protect your axes like nobody's business!

That’s cool. I have military Hardigg cases with those same latches.

Most robust cases I have are the giant Safe Cases for my X100 Bladerunners. But they’re not indestructible and are weakened IMO by having normal (though a bit nicer) latches and hinges.

For strength to weight ratio, I can't do better than my Hiscox cases.

They're not indestructible, but this image from their website says a lot. I became a huge fan when I bought my Lowden, and now have a couple more. The dreadnought size also fits my Orpheum OM like a glove, and the guitar doesn't budge when placed in it. Best part is that they're super light, unlike a lot of the higher end TKL cases.

As a psuedo-engineer, that pic is marketing hype and you could probably do that with any formed plastic case. Plus you'd only have to do it for a second to take the pic because who's going to recreate it?

I suppose that's true, but I am still a huge fan of these cases. I think the Artist series is the best bang for the buck premium case you can buy. Probably 80-90% as good as a Calton or Hoffee, for 40% of the price, and 20% of the weight. I love the "Geib" style cases that my better Martins have too, but they're tanks by comparison. I think my Hiscox cases would be my first choice here for air travel (which I don't do much), and I know our fellow member @6L6 agrees. He and @wileypickett were the members that put these cases on my radar.

I didn't mean to say they're not great cases - I have no idea. I just like to discredit marketing whenever I can. :)
I suggest trying one. If you're lucky you can score one cheap, and I was lucky to get my Artist II dreadnought case for $150 all in six months ago. Looking for a jumbo size now, but cheap-ass me hasn't found the right deal yet.

Yes, but when was the last time you saw a group perform all standing on a guitar case?

When I bought my used CE-100 in came in a "fight case" but off the top of my head I don't remember what brand it is.

You can see it hear in the lower left against the wall in the "vault".

It has this inside:

The thing is pretty sizable!
Dang, that is quite a flight case, Grot! I love the diamond plate aluminum (if that's what it is). That looks pretty tough!
I have military Hardigg cases with those same latches.
Yeah those cases are awesome! I think that's what you're talking about, GAD, Pelican cases, right? Black plastic, super tough! I have one of those Pelicans downstairs just waiting for someday to fit it with a guitar. Someone gave it to me once, and I've never used it. They do make awesome flight cases. I'll see if I can grab a pic of mine later.

I have a case like this for a Les Paul. Very protective and I bought it for really, really, not a lot of money. I really, really hate it. It weighs a ton and is cumbersome and now I know why the guy was getting rid of it.

Pelican mow owns Hardigg, but Hardigg cases are more robust than Pelicans. Hardigg cases are (so far as I’m aware) only sold to military and government while Pelican is more widely sold to anyone. This is a Hardigg case of the type I have:

They come in a lot of usually very large sizes and are designed to hold things like medical equipment, rifles (usually with internal locking racks), and some even unfold into desks. They’re designed to withstand the abuse the military puts them through.

I buy them used on Ebay because the one pictured is over $1000 new.

I wish Hiscox cases were available more easily in the US. I have one and it's great.

I've got a Gibson "Gen 2 Chainsaw Case." Does it qualify?

Oooh, Edwin... What do you keep those magnificent Alembics in? And, do you have special travel cases for your gigs?
Well, my Alembics are long gone, sadly. I got the Hiscox for a Pat Wilkins P bass made from ancient woods (from 100 to 150 years old). However, it was a new old stock case made for Vigier basses, so the P did not fit. However, my Modulus TBX 6 fits perfectly.

I have a Calton case for my Starfire and while I don't travel as much these days since becoming an immigration attorney about 8 years ago, I'll be heading to Ventura CA for the Skull & Roses Festival in a few weeks.

That Calton case for your Starfire looks fabulous, Edwin! Nice. No question about protecting the bass with that beauty.
