So as some know I own a guild starfire v and have wanted a guild acoustic for since 2010ish . My friend thinks im crazy but there’s just something about guilds that really intrigues me .

You have bands like def leppard, googoodolls, g&r all played one which just intensified my interest .

Going through videos and reviews I really started to enjoy the newer d-40s and I found one at a “ma and pa” store

So yeah I have my eye one a d40e (satin)

Hopefully tomorrow we can finish the deal and get this shipped to me lol!

Do what are you guys looking at and yes I want to see pictures and know why you like guild guitars.

While I have been entrenched in the Martin camp for over 30 years, I recently became interested in Guild's maple body acoustics when I purchased a DCE3 (very non-Martin). They are unique. I also have an F-412 that I like very much. I had a JF-30 for a few months back in the 1990s, but I couldn't bond with it. I've turned my attention to these models. Maybe one will find its way to me some day.

Hey, Jared. Best wishes on your forthcoming D-40E!

There are really two Guilds remaining on my bucket list. An F-612 and a distant second, the F-312. At this point, I don't have disposable income anymore (well, not like I did pre-retirement) , so those dreams are going to go unfulfilled. I would also love to have another F-50R back in the stable, but same deal.

Anyway, you're beginning your quest, Jared. Next, for you, I'd be on the lookout for a jumbo, folk-body 6 string. Maybe an F-50 (or F-50R).

I have two of my favorite Guilds (both maple). I would like to add either a D-50 or a D-55 or a D-40, D-35, D-25 or a new F-40 Traditional at some point. I largely like the mahogany guitars better for playing solo, but a rosewood guitar would be good for playing leads with other people.

I’d love to try the little all mahogany one , the Martin 0015 is amazing. I’ve always like a mahogany top lol. But first thing is first lol

They make new ones in Oxnard, Jared, if you want to continue to go new. Maybe you can find one of these. I hear good things:

I currently have a D30, D40, and D50. I have a D20 on the way arriving Friday (even though I just sold a D15). I'm thinking the flat back will give it a bit more snap. We'll see. I just like to try all of them. In the past few weeks I've tried to buy a D25 and a DV4, both had major issues so they went back.
I'm definitely a dread guy. I did have a GAD40 in maple for awhile. It was nice but a bit lacking compared to my other guitars. Some day I'll pick up an American-made Guild mini-jumbo of some sort if I can find one for the right price. The 17'' jumbos are just too big for me even though I love the sound.

This is my most recent purchase, received this past Monday, from a shop in Daytona, FL through Reverb. 2007 Guild F-47MC. It's only slightly played A few small marks on the sound board, The protective factory plastic on the pickguard has not been removed and the original case is flawless. It's my first maple guitar and I love the sound; so different than Rosewood or Hog.
My eyes are looking for a Hoboken F-112 and a New Hartford D-55SB.

Thank Chazmo! I did trim the string ends and have been enjoying the brilliance of this one. I love the size of the body; just as playable for me as a dread' but not as large as a jumbo which i've found is not comfortable. I'm 5'6" with a 31" sleeve length. I just had that F-30 Rosewood shipped from Akron which was held since mid-January waiting for non-freezing weather to arrive. Pics are from the dealer.

Right now, I'm not eyeing up anyting in particular -- however, one of these days I'll start looking for a US made 12 string dread to keep my D25 company.

Wow that's a beaut! That looks so right with the Florentine cutaway :) - I would love to hear that!

Believe me I'm so happy with the sound that it gives off. It' has wonderful tone when played softly and has some really great volume when attacked. It's tone perfect except at the 12 fret and above on the B string. I do not do any social media so the hope of a YouTube or different audio is not within my wheelhouse. Email and this forum is the extent of my putting myself out there.

Good luck on the D40 Jared. Got my fingers crossed for you. I’ll probably be selling one or two this year, but I still very much want to find an Orpheum OM-14 mahogany. I have the SS version which sounds amazing but its just a little uncomfortable for me.

Hey, Walt. Try a different gauge string for the B (.015" - .017")... Can you describe the tone problem at the 12th fret? Is it only the B string?

Chazmo, the issue is that from the 12th fret on the B is 1/4 sharp based on the tuning equip. and it is a .014 B. I was surprised that the guitar was that accurate. I really appreciate your input. I don't play past the 6th fret. The next time I change strings I will try the .015-.017 for the B to see if changes the characteristics and yes it is only the B. All others are good to the 16th fret...as far as I checked.
I wrote a note and placed it in the case so I'll remember.

Thanks , I read the specks on the neck is the same as the d55 beside the obvious ebony and cosmetic.

And it’s very similar to my starfire so I should get along with it nicely

I’m fairly content but would be eyeballing one they don’t make yet: a concert sized spruce top, rosewood b&s, with 24 3/4” scale, and 1 3/4” nut width.
