Not to derail the thread, but a good friend of mine, bike/car racer from back in the day, liked to pronounce it Volks-Fakken and I always found that amusing, to the point of using it myself.Volkswagen (pronounced) "Folks-Vaggin" = Peoples' car. English inherited "folk" (as in 'Hey, folks!' or 'Folk music') from the German Volk. I think Germany may have inherited the Beetle from Ancient Egypt.
