My daughter found it in a dumpster. Rosette decal wore off, but the painted binding is still in good shape (no rot or shrinkage!). No stamping or label whatsoever to indicate brand, country of origin or date of manufacture. No truss rod, but the tree-trunk neck is straight as a arrow. She was going to use it for and art project, but I made it playable by shaving the bridge and sticking a piece of index card under the nut, so she said I should have it. 23" scale length and nylon strings are easy on the arthritis. It's old, battered and low-rent, kinda like its owner. It knocks around the house and gets played more than my Gibson acoustic.

Kind of liberating having a total "beater" instrument that requires exactly zero special care when it comes to handling, humidifying, etc..

Fair enough. Here's a pic of my F212 I took quickly today. Pardon the clutter; I'll take some better pics of it (and its partner, my Starfire IV-12) when I have some time.

After trying a demo for Ray on my F212XL, I broke out my MIC dread all hog GAD D125-12 and tried playing a piece of Then You (which I'd long ago recorded on my JF30-12). Man, that little GAD is amazing! Huge sound, big bass (which is needed on Then You, which is drop D). Best 400 dollar guitar I ever bought (with 5-latch Guild case)!

That's how I feel about my 2011 GAD2 25NAT - got it for $375 with a 5 latch tweed Guild case at a local pawn shop. Can't say it's the best $375 guitar I've ever bought, though, because I paid $375 for my '72 G37 with the Guild 2520 case back in 1973, brand new!

You know, speaking of wood, check out that old chair behind the guitar. My wife's daughter was driving up from Houston and spotted that chair in a trash pile in a woman's front yard along side the highway. She stopped, as the woman of the house was out in the yard and asked if she was throwing it away? The lady told our daughter that she was throwing it away, so our little beauty asked what she would take for it? The woman told her to take it away and helped her put it in the back of her Suburban, then brought it to me.

Oh you should have seen it.......branches broken and hanging off of it, water stains from one end to the other..........I was looking at her wondering why she brought it to me, but she told me to take it and see if I could do anything with it. Upon close inspection, it turns out it is an Amish chair, and the entire chair, except the slats is doweled together. I spent maybe 3 days sanding and sanding and finally applied about 5 coats of finish.

I wish you could sit in that thing......so smooth and glides so nicely, and not a squeak or a creak. There's been a many a baby rocked to sleep in that chair. 😊 There can be truth to the old saying that one man's trash is another's treasure.

I picked this up from Goodwill online for cheap. Minimal description and pics but the big body (it's huge, bigger than my dreads), 12 fret slothead was intriguing. No identifying marks except “Japan” stamped into the back of the headstock. I was hoping for the best but prepared for the worst. The strings were about 50 years old. The bridge was lifting because the bridge plate was pretty trashed. Big belly behind the bridge. I took off the bridge and reglued, made and installed a bridge plate overlay. I also glued several loose braces which took care of the bellying. It also needed a neck reset so I did the kamikaze method and converted it to a bolt on. New tuners . Plays pretty well now and I’m into it for less than $200. It’s all laminate but sounds pretty darn good. I really like how funky it is. I replaced the original pickguard (bottom pic) with a firestripe guard I had lying around.

Kind reminds me of a Gib, super cool . Those Japanese made some awesome laminated guitars and being a 12 fretter very interesting would love to hear it !

I’ll make a video sometime soon and post it. This guitar is well built for sure. The braces are tucked and joints are nice and neat. I think age and abuse took its toll. The pins were all chewed up which seemingly lead to the plate failure which caused everything else. The bridge had two bolts (which I removed and filled) or the whole thing may have just let go. I was glad I could save a good guitar from the trash pile.

I think it's a Gibsomine Model 12.
