The guitar showed up today safe and sound. As the owner clearly stated, the body has been completely stripped of finish and it needs plenty of work. However, no structural issues and the neck looks nice and straight. As expected, it will need a refret along with finish. It will be a fun project. The piece of alder used for the body is not pretty (and it is a little beat up) so definitely a solid color.
The non original parts are the tuners, strap buttons and bridge. All other items look original. It is missing the kickstand and selector switch tip but I have extra steel to make a kickstand from the last time I did that and I have extra switch tips in my parts bin. I have not pulled the pickguard off but somebody has been playing with the wiring as there is a mini toggle and a hole for a second. That is for another day.
The one item I was worried about was the bridge. It is a replacement and I had no idea if they drilled extra holes in the body to install bushings. The good news is that no extra holes were drilled. The bushings are not the original Hagstrom ones but are pressed into the original holes. I need to check to see if an original height adjustment stud will thread into these bushings. I just can’t believe the replacement bridge used the same diameter bushing holes and the same spacing. The bridge is marked as Made in Germany and here are some photos. (Edit: I just found some photos and this bridge looks like it is a Schaller). It also acts as if the post are magnetized as it “snaps” into place and won’t fall off if you turn it upside down. I like that! Unfortunately it just looks wrong so an original Hagstrom bridge will be installed.
Here are a couple photos of the guitar (yes, the TRC is upside down and I will fix but I didn’t have any tools handy). Not pretty but it will come back to life! It may be a little slower resurrection than normal due to other things going on but once it starts I’ll start a new thread.
