To my untrained eyes, that center beam seems rather larger than it needs to be, considering it's just holding some 2X4s and drywall. You needed the 45 degree supports ?
I have full faith in Dave to know what needs to happen in that clime. I mean, that building is already good by the fact that it's there. And then..... that beam is killer! I'm just a fan of a building within a building!! You can amplify. You can TESTIFY!! And the neighbors doan know WTF!! That's my take on this!! I wish I had one of these!! Not that I play that much or that well or that loud but.... It's a dream!! Thanks, Dave, for updating us on this project!! I'm more than envious!! :encouragement::encouragement:

The ceiling is also made of multiple (3) layers of drywall, again with the green glue between two of them. So, it's heavier than it looks.

And it is somewhat over-engineered. So yeah, there's probably more overhead support than what's really necessary. It ain't caving in. :redface-new:

Would probably have the opposite effect. But thank you for playing!

The intended humor in my post was apparently lost without the benefit of emoticons. What happened to that option anyway? How are we supposed to be understood out here with such limited visuals? :uncomfortableness: You see, that's the best I could find. Frono, get that fixed! :eek:nthego:

I knew you were joking, guildman. I was trying to make a snappy comeback, but it just didn't snap. :devilish:

Not sure where I'll have to go with that. What I've done so far won't be especially effective at the lower frequencies. I'm hoping that having things sound nice on the inside will allow folks to get a satisfying sound at lower volumes.

Four layers of half inch thick sheet rock with two on each side of 2x6 studs with 6" thick fiberglass and NO direct air gaps or holes between the structures are NSA requirments for acoustic isolation if Closed Areas including dual solid doors with foyer. Make sure threshold around doors are adjusted tight. Ventilation and HVAC need are where it's gets tricky.

That's pretty close to what I've done. 4 layers of sheetrock, with green glue between each pair, on 2X4 studs with 4" R-13 between. Will try a solid door with a sheet of MLV on the inside, offset a bit. HVAC will be a mini-split unit, which should be the least intrusive type.

Getting well along now. Next up: Some acoustical panels and bass traps.

At least it's bearable to work in there, now. A/C good!

Ditto the Holy Crap, Wow... that's amazing!

Editing to mention 110 LED bulbs, they put out a nice light and run pretty cool.

Yeah... the LED bulbs are nice. Best thing lighting-wise is the double strips of color LEDs in the little shelf above the track lights. They don't photograph well but the effect is really cool. And... they'll pulse with the music!
