Finally got what I think is 1 of the last Hoboken made F212 XL's serial # AE 428 circa 1966 (I think)
It arrives next week. It is being described as mint. Does this number correspond w Hoboken??

Yup, it's Hoboken.

Hello lbrous2,

Welcome! Your 'new' F-212XL most likely has a Hoboken label, but according to my research it is most likely an early Westerly instrument.
Shouldn't make any difference for the quality or the value!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

I wouldn't worry about the Westerly thing. They maintained the lighter build until the early 70's if that what you're going for.. My 1970 D-50 has a Hoboken label but it's Westerly and weighs only 3.8 pounds. And it really sounds good anyway.

Would attach photos , but cant figure out how. Says I do not have permission to post attachments. I bought Han's book and am now even more confused about build date. It has the Kluson tuners that were supposedly replaced by import tuners in 1966. It also has the black lines in the Chesterfield peghead. Serial is AE-428 but I saw a AE-392 w import tuners and a AE-502 with the oval guarantee label without the Hoboken on label. View photos at: http://1drv.ms/1NloaAc

Welcome to LTG! You basically need to include a link to your pictures (ending in *.jpg) in the "Insert Image" button. But with Onedrive it's definitely tricky...
I help you out:

Really nice guitar! If you get a chance, please let us know the weight. I've owned one from the early 80's and a recent NH build. Both tipped the scales at a couple of ounces over five pounds. Just wondering if yours is about the same, or a little lighter.

thank you Ralf, for your help & everyone else for your welcome. It is in amazing shape for it's age. Checked weight on our semi accurate scale at 5.4 lbs.

I bought Han's book and am now even more confused about build date. It has the Kluson tuners that were supposedly replaced by import tuners in 1966. I wouldn't worry about that too much, I'd go by Hans' most recent assessment in this thread. He's explained before that during that era, for a variety of reasons, guitars didn't always leave the factory in "serial number order".
For one thing, they might have built a few "superstructures" and then finished 'em at later dates with then-current parts for example.
Then add to the potentila confusion by relocating the whole factory from Hoboken to Westerly in late '66 to early '67, and all kinds of possibilities come to mind.
Alos consider that it's possible either your guitar or the earlier one has had the tuners swapped out at some point.
It IS, by the way, real purty, I bet I'd love it to death.
