Looks like more coming this weekend too. Been a crazy few weeks up here, Pascal. I'm still (mostly) happy to be home, so this doesn't faze me. But, it's like living in the mountains this year.

Except for the days of the long storms, I've gotten the Honda out pretty much every day. That said, when the roads get crappy, I rely on my Volvo AWD wagon to get around. That thing is an unstoppable mountain goat. The beauty of working from home is that I really don't *have* to go anywhere.

The weather pattern looks like you might get some frigid air in at least northern FL at some point in the next few days. Hope it doesn't make it down your way, big guy.

Have I told you about the AWD my Mercury Milan has? I have but you wouldn't mind hearing about it again?
Well:
It also comes in handy on cloverleafs in the rain.
When it does rain.
And black ice in the mountains.
When I feel like navigating a pregnant sow in the mountains in January.
Al: Ya know your buddy is planning on taking over the world? Getting us ready for the post-zombie apocalypse?:

Excellent.
Best thing to happen since the demise of the Heathkit House.
Can't wait to tell my local PU where to put their power.
Then I'll go for a pleasure cruise in my recently purchased '01 BMW 325i in Orient Blau Metallik.

You know I'm extremely impressed with the Milan Al. Please do not miss a chance to remind me its performances.
How you like the beamer? Is it auto or manual? Speaking of 4 banger, I test drove the new 2015 Mustang (after I saw how hot she looked now, I got curious about this 305HP turbo 4 cylinder) tell you what. I loved it.
Never felt a 4 that "torquy" before. Huge low and mid range push, really fun to drive in city.
Of course it pisses the purists off cuz it doesn't "sound like a Mustang should", but didn't bother me a bit and felt that the loss of weight in the front (compared to the V8 GT) combined with the now independent rear suspension was a enormous improvement in handling. That thing is tight!
Reminds me my good ole' 3000GT will be up for replacement soon.... hmmmm...... damned cars!

Hey, looks like a good time to tell you all about my new purchase.
2015 Ford Escape, 4WD, 240 HP Turbo 4-Banger. Of course I'm a rumble of the V-8 sports car kinda guy, but tell ya what, this little all-climate and conditions spit fire rocks! Darn good gas mileage too!

I hear you!... that's why the V6 Mustang is sold cheaper than the 4: Sucks as much gas as the V8 (16/28) and less power than (or about the same as) the 4cyl, with a 22 city/32 highway rating for 310HP!
Welcome to the world of 4 bangers America! (Still gotta have a V8 in the garage for fun tho....) :)

I just find it a little bit amusing... I've been driving high-performance 4-cylinder engines since the '80s. Only now folks are realizing they're the bee's knees.

Actually, to be fair, the high-revving, lower-torque engines that appeal to me are not the ones that are converting the general public. It's the turbochargers that seem to make them palatable to folks. Bah, I say! ;)

Eh eh.... keep in mind that the self consciousness around fuel consumption is a relatively new phenomenon for the US. The other side of the pond has been developing turbo diesel 4 bangers delivering 40 + MPG for decades, (with gas at 6 bucks a gallon or so....)
So I'm with you on the "amused" camp. :)

Charlie, automakers are going to small displacement, long stroke, four cylinder engines with multiple turbos and multi-speed transmissions (eight gears seems to be about the norm these days) because it's the best way to score the highest numbers in the EPA's fuel economy loop. It's not necessarily the best way to get optimal fuel economy in the real world, but that's not what it's all about. With the higher Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards looming on the horizon, they obviously have to do something. Just my opinion of course, but I still think the best way to improve fuel economy in a car is with a small turbo diesel. On our recent trip through the Scottish Highlands, we rented a Hyundai i30 (Elantra here in the states) with a 1.6 turbo diesel and a six speed manual. It wasn't fast or anything, but was perfectly adequate, and averaged a staggering 56 mpg over the nearly thousand miles we drove (on the wrong side of the very narrow road, with Mrs. Two screaming much of the time). I honestly don't know why we can't get that engine here. I'd much rather have that than a hybrid.

And if you don't like turbos on engines, you really need to drive my car some time!
