RE: "Not really Pink Floyd without Syd Barrett."

A BIG +1 to that and hats off to you, my Canadian brother!

I did not read the link, but I believe this album is fully instrumental and was recorded 20 years ago during "the division bell". It is said to be a tribute to Richard Right of Pink Floyd, who passed away not long ago.

The waters-Gilmour saga has been fun for many decades, but I do not believe either of them can sing any longer (really Waters never could sing at the level of Gilmour or Syd) and the brief/occasional Gilmour-Waters "reunions" we have seen in recent years was nothing more than an attempt for waters to "help" Gilmour with the vocals (which failed miserably) for a special event, and Gilmour "returning the favor" by playing one solo on one song during a waters concert after that. I do believe they are beyond finished, together or separately.

Syd Barrett...the best of them all, yes I agree. Everyone covers the Beatles, stones, and bob Dylan but not nearly enough artists studying and performing Syd. It is a shame his Aspergers syndrome went untreated as he continued to experiment with mind expanding hallucinogens. He fell too ill to continue with the band. The band and all of us are lucky for what he did contribute, and for his close friend David Gilmour stepping in at the time. David also produced "an introduction to Syd Barrett" a recent "record store day" release that I am quite fond of.

Gilmour is reported to be a major sweetheart by all who have met him. He is also the one who attempted to protect Syd and make sure that he was provided for and treated fairly. There are lots of other examples of his kindness to all and sundry. Nice guys of his caliber are few and far between. I don't care if people want to talk trash about his music. Just leave him alone.

No comment about what people have said about Mr. Waters.

Didn't realise Syd has Asperger's, explains a lot I guess. It seems it can cause some rather errant behaviour, see Craig Nucholls from The Vines:

The band have often used Guilds by the way:

as has Dave Gilmour of course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87cq1X3MG1o

Random plug for "On An Island", Gilmour's last (so far) solo album. Seriously mellow, with great guitar playing.

David Gilmour has a ton of uncreditited music on Syds albums. Things no one will ever know of. (anything "remastered" and such for sure). he has taken credit for one or 2 things here and there but that is just a small representation of what he's contibuited. He and Syd were tight. As for Waters I appreciate what he has contributed to Pink Floyd and his solo career, and I do appreciate the Pink Floyd records and tours without him just as well. I just wish he would stick to music. He certainly was quite the drama queen after the Wall drama and had a legal battle with his bandmates for nearly 20 years to follow. im sure they are happy to give him 25 percent of all for doing absolutely nothing just to get him to shut the hell up! of course they are all friends now what choice do they have. Waters is just ridiculous though. He owns property in the county I work in, I could tell u all some stories about him but I will choose not to. he is essentially, a drama queen and a ******. it pains me to love his tunes so much.

Didn't realise Syd has Asperger's, explains a lot I guess. It seems it can cause some rather errant behaviour, see Craig Nucholls from The Vines:

Those on the high functioning end of the Autistic spectrum walk among us. University departments are full of them, I think, and tech firms. And music? I know from hard experience that they do march to the beat of a different drummer, and sometimes, but not always unfortunately, its a very good and very productive drummer. Still life is very hard for them, and people are often very cruel to them. For them things like the norms of social interaction and common sense must be learned like a difficult foreign language. They are often desperately lonely but have very limited ways of engaging in human interaction.

Can we spot the one showing high functioning behavioral tells here: http://youtu.be/XjJYeCYO-hA

I don't think he was ever diagnosed as such, but ....... I have been in school resource rooms where he would fit right in.

I had fourth-row seats for Roger Waters' "The Wall," and it was the greatest show I've ever seen. But maybe that's because I haven't seen Pink Floyd live.

I enjoyed the recent Wall production very much as well, I went to 3 of those shows. Was very happy Roger was able to bring it all together, as I was 3 years old during the first Wall tour...believe it or not I do have a foggy recollection of the Wall when it was new 34 years ago, but of course did not attend one of the few Wall shows in 1980 at Nassau Colesium, as a 3 year old. I agree the 2010 tour was phenomenal, credit where credit is due, even though Roger continues to make a questionable reputation for himself off the stage. I do have to say though, no Waters show has been the same without Doyle Bramhall in the band, whom I saw play with the Waters band at Jones Beach in 1999. Doyle has not toured with Waters since, although the band is still phenomenal you can't replace a guy like that. The Waters DVD "live the flesh" documents this lineup (but Doyle was REALLY smokin at that Jones Beach show in 1999!) anyway I think Doyle was just on loan from his band Arc Angels and from Eric Claptons tour.

i also saw Pink Floyd in 1994 at Yankee stadium. As a high school kid, I got way too intoxicated and missed most of the show, passed out in my seat in the upper deck. The DVD however ("pulse"), is fantastic.

He and Syd were tight.
Why my absolute all time favorite Floyd tunes are actually "Astronomy Domine" and "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" on Ummagumma. I know Gilmour's credited but there are definitely some Syd riffs in there. I suspect he was there (for Astronomy Domine at least), but not 100% competent or credited.
If not, Gilmour is doing a magnificent job of replicating some of those quirky riffs. I would assume for both artistic and audience expectation reasons.

Correct. From Wikipedia: "Described as a "swan song" for Wright, The Endless River mostly comprises instrumental, ambient music. It is based on twenty hours of unreleased material the band wrote, recorded and produced with Wright during sessions for Pink Floyd's previous studio album The Division Bell in 1993. The album was finished aboard the Astoria, Gilmour's houseboat recording studio, in 2013 and 2014."

Saw the band live only once -- on the *Atom Heart Mother* tour at the Fillmore East in 1971. They performed all of the title piece with a medium sized orchestra (all in tuxes) and followed with their "greatest hits" (without the orchestra) for the second half of the show. It seemed "totally awesome" to my 17-year-old ears, but so did that album at the time. Last time I heard that album however -- more than 10 years ago now -- I thought it was pretentious and awful.

I just heard one of the new tunes on the radio and it has vocals. Was kinda soft to be honest, and the entire album is likely songs that did not make the division bell cut in 1994. It's available startin tomoro
